10/10 english class. So each engcomp 3 class focuses on a different topic, and Peggy's is about pop culture and teenagers and stuff. So all the work in the class lowkey didn't feel like work at all. For example, we would read articles about popular films or listen to short podcasts about nostalgia, so it was really easy.

Homework-wise, there were mainly 3 components
1) you have to read a couple of articles before each class
2) you have to write a one-page journal for each class on basically any topic
3) you have to write 3 essays that are each ~5 pages give or take (but you turn in 2 at the end of the quarter). this quarters topics were: quarantine reflection, definition of a word/phrase in contemporary culture, and cultural analysis of a source.

My advice for this class is
-do the hw an hour before class so its fresh in your memory
-dont fall behind on the journals
-be an active participator
-edit your final drafts diligently

Peggy overall is super cheery and it really sucks that we couldn't have this class in person. She gives a lot of support and is super willing to help in any way possible. As a person who didn't do so hot in high school English, this class was certainly a good experience. If you put in a good amount of effort, you should be able to get an A.

Oh Peggy. Cussing and all; she is awesome. There's no way of getting around it. Super great personality that makes you and your classmates feel as though you are back in high school just hanging out. Makes everyone feel comfortable, which you will have to be because this definitely doubles as a discussion class just as much as the writing. Maybe it was just me, coming from a very strict English writing background, but I had trouble trying to make the switch into an opinionated and creative writing approach. Great class, really. Got a B+.

Eng. Comp 131B has been my favorite class at UCLA because of Peggy! She is a wonderful teacher. Her energy and spirit really create a comfortable classroom environment, where students feel comfortable contributing their ideas or asking for help. All the materials taught were extremely relevant, and I know that I will frequently apply the skills learned in this class. The articles and readings to be extremely interesting, and they sparked class discussion well. Peggy spends a lot of time giving support to each student. Every revision of each paper was thoroughly marked with extensive feedback. Also, she met frequently with students for individual conferences. Peggy is one of the best professors I have ever had- her obvious care and dedication to her students make her an amazing teacher! I highly recommend her class!

Professor Margaret Davis, better known as Peggy by her students, is one of the greatest English teachers I have ever had! The readings and literature she chooses for her classes are interesting and thought provoking (you won't mind reading for this class!). She is hilarious and facilitates great class discussions! When essay time rolls around, she is readily available in office hours or through e-mail. I high suggest taking an English class with Peggy!

Professor Davis (she'll demand you call her Peggy) is, by far, the best English teacher I've ever had. I had her for English Comp 3, which may as well have been called the "Find Your Voice as a Writer" or "How to Love Writing," and loved going to every single discussion. On average, you'll only read about ten pages a week, and they're all super interesting topics from popular journalists.

But really, I used to HATE writing and was the slowest reader in town; this class made me LOVE writing essays for the simple reason that she'll help you find your voice, and you'll love that voice!

Peggy is super quirky and VERY energetic; having her as a professor was quite an experience I doubt I'll ever forget. This was definitely the best 5 units I've spent at UCLA. Highly, Highly recommended!

Professor Davis (Peggy) is definitely one of the best English professors in UCLA. She truly cares about students and is more than willing to spend extra time with anyone who needs help.
The readings are short and interesting, and the classes are interactive and very very fun.
As a south campus major, English was always my least favorite subject.
But she is the kind of teacher that will make you enjoy writing essays and look forward to every one of the lectures.
If I have a chance, I will definitely take her class again.

Margaret Davis is very caring teacher. She works hard to make students think critically about the writing process and how they can improve. I took the class and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of growth I had seen in my writing. She makes you think and helps spark analyzing tactics. I would highly recommend Davis for English Comp 3.

Davis had an interesting class topic when I took her and it was about media and advertisement. There isn't much homework in the class, mostly reading a few articles per week and we have engaging discussions about them in class. She really likes it when people talk and she grades you on participation. There are three essays- each ranging from 4 to 6 pages. She really does want you to be original and creative so try to amuse her when writing your papers. Give her an all around good first impression and participate in class discussions because she'll like you more.
