His class is pretty rough. I would recommend what many of my friends did and not take math for a quarter to take this class with a better professor the next quarter (like
professor Conley he is very good). WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this class

Unless you really want to focus on math or if you've had the material before, avoid at all costs.

This man was the bane of my existence.
Strict grading & a harsh inventory of problems.
OFFICE HOURS are crucial.
but then again, not taking this man might just be a smarter choice

Great lecturer but VERY difficult professor, no partial credit, based on a 0,1,2 point system where a point is given for correct work but wrong answer and 2 points for complete answer+ work, overall he was the hardest math professor i have ever had and made 31B and 32A look like a walk in the park. i recommend him if you're willing to put in the time for his homework which takes about 4-5 hours depending on how well you interpret his "personal problems"

Contrary to what every single person has noted in the evals below, I found Biskup's homework problems fun in a challenging way. Unlike the repetitive bookwork, Biskup makes his own problems and make you apply a mixture of concepts to solve them. I thought this was more fun than simply doing derivatives and integrals or whatever the stupid books gives. However, I do recommend attending as many office hour sessions as possible (I had a very helpful TA, and he kinda just ignored it when we took notes during OH). I must say though, his homework took up a lot of my time... and I still ended up with a B+. Oh, well! Midterms + finals are pretty much taken from the homework, so even if you feel like those one-page-long hard problems probably will not appear on the test, THEY WILL. I recommend him overall.

P.S. Brown = easy, but Biskup = fun math, and Sargsyan = noob. seriously. and arrogant too; you should see his picture on his website. Like, really?

He's an extremely nice guy, but the class is very difficult. His midterm and his finals are very hard. The homework requires you to go to office hours at least twice a week. Many of the "tricks" to solving his homework problems can be obtained in office hours. As long as you complete the homework and understand how to do them, you should be fine. The grading is harsh however.

Biskup makes the class hard, but you will learn. He will assign about 12 problems for homework for each lecture, and some problems that are not in the book are too hard to solve for yourself, so you have to go to office hours (TA or Biskup) to know how to solve them. But since everyone has the same problem, office hours are usually packed. Exams are entirely based on homework, and the smallest mistake will take off half of the points for the problem (a wrong sign for example). I would recommend you to take another teacher, but Biskup is not THAT hard and you will guaranteed learn, because he teaches very well. As long as you're ready for a lot of work outside of class (about 4 hours per week) you'll be fine. Oh, and do well on the final (50%), its the only reason I got an A.

Hardcore professor. He is a good teacher, but he makes 31A very very difficult, more than it should be. hw problems are just wayy too difficult; same case with his tests. His grading system is brutal. a midterm of 8 questions is worth 16 points, 2 points per question. if you make a tiny error, ie forgot to put minus sign, you get 1 point off, which is 50%. Prepare to come to office hours at least twice a week.
