Honestly, I was initially worried about this class because I hadn't done anything calculus-related in a year, but you really only need to know basic derivation and integration for this class. March's lectures are very organized and he posts a concise summary of each lecture on CCLE after class. He is also very clear about his expectations, which I really, really appreciated. For every quiz and exam, he will give you an outline of exactly what each question will be about and how many points it will be worth so you know exactly what to study. There are no surprises and the tests are all very fair, so as long as you do the work you should be able to succeed in this class. It is 10% homework, 20% quizzes, 20% first midterm, 20% second midterm, and 30% final. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience in this class and I would 100% take it again. Also, if Ben ever TAs for this class again ENROLL IN HIS SECTION. He is so, so helpful.

I took Math 3C with March in the Winter 2020. In a nutshell, March is an approachable instructor, but he’s simply not good at teaching this class. I found his teaching style to be dull, and outright boring at times. He often struggles to explain concepts or answer students’ questions. Now, this might be due to language barrier or it could be because March is a supposed “math genius” (he’s only 21 years old). The unfortunate thing is this cruel genius can’t teach. In fact, I learned more from my TA, Ben, than I did from March. Ben was an amazing TA and I was lucky to be in his section. The emergence and spread of the COVID-19 virus only contributed to my dissatisfaction in this course and in March as an instructor.
In response to Covid-19, March made our Final exam a take-home final. This is understandable -- in fact, many instructors opted for this. What March also decided to do was that on Saturday (less than a week from the time of the final and a few hours after UCLA instructor evaluations closed) he changed the course’s grading scheme by reducing the weight of the final. Originally, the scheme was 10% Homework, 20% Quizzes, 20% First midterm, 20% Second midterm, and 30% Final. He notified us by email that he would be increasing the weight of the midterms(that we had already taken) from 20% to 30% for each one and lowering the weight of the final from 30% to 10%. Effectively, this made it such that there was little to no room to improve one’s grade, and caught everyone by surprise. Obviously, such a last minute alteration to the grading scheme and syllabus upset a lot of students but apparently UCLA gave professors the ability to do this in response to coronavirus- although I find it reprehensible the manner in which apathetic March went about this. Most professors opted to make things easier on students during this time, but not March. This whole fiasco with the multiple changes to the final really put a lot of stress on students during finals week and left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I'm writing this just as our final has been moved online due to corona virus. March, at the very last minute, decided to change his grading scheme to make the midterms worth 30% each. He did this because he does not care at all about student wellbeing or have any empathy. While most teacher took this opportunity to be lenient and show kindness he decided to bash us down even further. He is horrible at explaining, he talks to the board the whole time, and never gives examples like the test. He is mean and a horrible teacher, he should not be teaching. He is some child prodigy who has come here with the emotional intelligence of a rock to fuck over students in math who don't live and breathe math.

Overall, I do not recommend taking 3C with him because the material itself is not that hard, he is just unreasonable.

March is such an interesting man. Definitely has a unique personality but I loved it. He's straightforward and his tests are more than fair. VERY easy class if you just follow his lectures and he posts summaries of his lectures after class as well. Also, choose Ben Jarmen/Jamen? sorry I forgot how to spell my TA's name lmfao but he was the best TA and literally gave identical practice problems as the tests. 10/10 recommend this professor and TA for this course :)

March is an ICON. once you take this class you will know what I mean. Sometimes in class he'll spout a bunch of equations and random steps on the board without really explaining what he's doing, and you'll feel overwhelmed, but trust me you will figure it out either on your own or the TA will explain it to you (try to get Ben Jarman as a ta, he's amazing). The tests are exactly what you would expect based on the homework he assigns. Just stay on top of your homework and you'll be fine. I was scared bc I wasn't good at probability during high school pre-calc, but somehow I was able to figure it out, so you will too. overall highly recommend this class.

Honestly, his class is very straightforward, he is just difficult to understand. He doesnt really explain concepts, he just does examples and expects you to understand the method he is using. I got through this class bc of the amazing TA i had (Ben, take his section). He explains everything so well and goes over the quiz material right before we took each one. His quizzes were fine, homework was helpful, but his exams were made to be tricky.

March is so derpy and eccentric, which made this class pretty funny and interesting at times, but other than that, his lectures are very straightforward and a bit monotonous at times, but it is never too roundabout or filled with fluff. If you're like most of the people in this class, this branch of math is probably something that you've never had experience with before, so there will be a lot of WTF moments in lecture where he teaches you a shitton of new things that you've literally never seen before, but the important thing is PRACTICE. If you complete all the homework and extra practice problems he gives you, you'll realize that the content isn't actually too difficult, it's just all about really knowing your notes well. If you don't know how to do problems on the homework or practice problems, go to office hours!! My TA was super super helpful and it really helps you because a lot of the times the test questions were pretty similar.

I feel that I learned what I was supposed to without going into that much more detail than was needed. March is pretty dry but gets to the point. Would take again

While this class definitely isn't the easiest, I found that March had reasonable expectations for his students. He guarantees anyone with a 90% in the class will get an A, which really helped me out winter quarter. The workload is pretty comparable to the other Math 3 courses, and I would highly recommend Ben as a TA.

I feel like March is too smart to be able to communicate well with his students. I felt like even though he tried to offer office hours to help us understand difficult topics, I often found it hard to understand because he would skip steps/ do them in his head. My TA ended up being more helpful than him. I think if I had kept up more with the homework in this class I would've easily done better.
The final was pretty hard, and I advise you to spend more time than you'd think to study for it.
