Avoid this guy, his syllabus may fool you with having 90% as solid A and having 5 online quizzes, but he's teaching is the worst. When it comes up to quizzes and midterms, they are impossible to get full score. I just wish I dropped the class before the first quiz was graded, at least I could've changed the section or the class for easier one.
For the final, I ended up submitting about 40 pages of proofs to CCLE (not lying). Not only were the problems very long, but they are very hard and took me almost the entire 24 hours to finish. If it was a homework assignment, I would understand. However, this is was a final and we had only 24 hours to do it. I ended up spending every minute of the 24 hours and I almost lost my mind. Like the other reviewers said, please save yourself and avoid this class with this professor. After every week passed by, more and more people dropped and I honestly wish I had just dropped because this class really affected my mental health and caused me severe anxiety. It was a very isolating experience as well because it seems like there was no way to get help, as there was no HW due and everything was an assessment (Quiz/Midterm/Final). The problems he posts do not resemble anything from the midterms so very quickly people realized there is not really a point of doing the HW. The only thing you can really do is pay attention in class and try to understand the notes.
As over reviews mention, I would avoid this professor at least in online class.
However, there are some good things. His lectures are basically him readiing his typed notes, which he publishes online, so you can basically skip them. Additionally, homeworks were optional, so you can skip them too. If you do skip though you better prepare for the tests, because they will be difficult. But if you're the right kind of student then this could be a good teacher for you. I just wouldn't recommend him for most people I know.
The only graded assignments are quizzes (5 weighted at 5% each), two midterms (22.5% each), and the final (30%), which makes it difficult to track your progress versus March's expectations. I say versus March's expectations since that is how your work will be graded: this professor is only ready for one method of proof on any exam and will give you a 0 if you don't use that method exactly, or if it is "too hard" for him to read. On the plus side, he tells you exactly which method of proof to use: look at the answers to the homework and exercises and try to interpolate which exam question corresponds to which homework problem and then proceed from there (oh the benefits of open book tests). Overall 131B isn't that heavy of a workload with March, but whatever level of work and understanding you put into the course is unlikely to be reflected in your grades. Oh, and March isn't rigorous or clear in lecture, but expects you to be on exams. I would suggest you take this course from another professor, and good luck!
