Quarter: Fall 2023
Grade: A

The prof is very engaging and passionate about the subject which made me genuinely interested. I will warn tho if you aren't a physics-y person it can be a little tough, as lots of the content are similarly structured to physics things such as forces. It's genuinely manageable and a fun class if you go into it knowing you will have to learn and memorize and it won't be a walk in the park.

Quarter: Fall 2023
Grade: NP

This was harder by miles than any of my other classes combined. I consistently did well on the homeworks, read and took notes on the textbook, but I just couldn't get any of the content. It made no sense to me.

Pros:
* Funny
* Slides are posted
* Syllabus is clear

Cons:
* Hard as FUCK, don't take this as a gen-ed if you don't love meteorology
* Tests were significantly more difficult than homeworks/discussion projects

Marcelo really carries this class. Going into this course I had really no interest in the material; I was just taking it to satisfy my physical science lab GE. But I can honestly say now after the fact that this class really got me interested in the weather. Marcelo makes every lecture really engaging. He's very witty and approachable, and he seems to be really understanding towards his students.

The class structure is pretty simple. Your total score is calculated out of 1000 points (or 1100 if you take the lab). The biggest chunks of your grade are obviously the midterm and final, but you also get points for weekly homework assignments, in-class quizzes, discussion section worksheets, and the lab assignments. The in-class quizzes and discussion worksheets are graded based on completion, so as long as you just attend class, they're free points. Plus, he also offers extra points for completing all of the quizzes and worksheets, so they can make up for any lost points on the exams. As for the exams, they're relatively easy. He mostly just pulls questions straight from the homework assignments or discussion worksheets, so as long as you study those, you can do pretty well.

The lab assignments are also a breeze as they're completely take-home and online. They're due every few weeks or so, and there are 4 total. Again, I'm pretty sure these are graded mostly on completion, so as long as you put effort into them, you should score some easy points. They mostly just consist of analyzing data and drawing conclusions from them, and they're honestly pretty fun to do.

TLDR: super cool professor, be sure to attend every lecture and discussion for free points, easy lab portion, material isn't super challenging but definitely don't procrastinate

Quarter: Fall 2023

I took this class in Fall 2023 and I would definitely take it again. An an Economics major looking to satisfy my scientific inquiry requirement, it was a perfectly manageable easy to understand class. There are some tricky scientific concepts in this class but, just memorize it for the tests and you should be good. Marcelo is an amazing lecturer and is actually really engaging and teaches the material clearly. It was so interesting to find out why weather events happen. The first midterm was definitely a wake up call, but that was a lack of preparedness. For the final, memorize the homework problems as they show up frequently in the MC section, and then just memorize lecture slides. Nothing out of the ordinary on the final. Final was super easy and similar to midterm. Just have to prepare and memorize a lot. I also took the lab for this class and the lab was super easy. It only consists of 4 lab assignments and are time consuming, but fairly easy to complete and graded on the nicer side. Overall 9/10 for this class.

I recommend taking this class if you're looking for a really easy GE. Chamecki is such a fun professor and a great lecturer and his class was very low stress. His grading consists of: midterm, final (noncumulative), super easy multiple choice assignments online, discussion participation, and class participation. His exams are mainly multiple choice and some FRQs. Definitely recommend taking this class.

Marcelo is a great guy-- he is very funny, eccentric, and passionate about what he teaches about. He definitely tried to keep the class engaged and had a lot of energy. With that being said, I do feel like he went a little too fast and it was difficult for me to digest the information so I was always confused by the end of class. Slides/recordings were posted and were helpful when studying. You do need to buy the interactive textbook for like $80. There were easy in-class participation points and the homeworks were easy as well. The discussions were kind of unhelpful because you would be put in groups to complete assignments and the TAs were not really able to provide any help. However, these assignments were basically graded on completion. The midterm and final were not awful, mostly multiple choice and a couple short answer questions. Many of the multiple choice questions were directly from the homeworks and in-class participation questions. Also, I have been able to use the information I've learned in class in real life a few times which has been cool.

I took this class as a science GE and I LOVED it!!! Professor Chamecki is an amazing teacher and person and I loved his class so much! He cares a lot if his students succeed and the assignments are also very easy. I am the least science inclined person ever but this class was so fun. It was challenging at times because I am not good at science and there were definitely rough moments but the professor is really committed to explaining the concepts, and if you pay attention and do the readings you will be confident in the material. The workload is very reasonable, and the assignments are through Pearson (so there are also corresponding quizlets with all the answers on the internet) but understanding the homework will help a lot on the tests. I could not recommend this professor more, he is so funny and teaches enjoyable classes that I was surprised to end up really liking!

Alright, so this class got derailed a bit at the end due to the TA strike, but here are my thoughts regardless.
Professor Chamecki is GREAT. As a North campus major I was absolutely dreading this class but the professor seriously made all the difference. He is funny and genuinely finds ways to make sure you understand what is going on. The material also is not difficult. It is for the most part conceptual, with like two equations you need to keep track of. Just make sure you stay on top of your notes because there is a lot of information by the end of the quarter, you just have to sort it out.
My biggest advice would be to ATTEND LECTURE AND DISCUSSION. When you participate in more than a certain number of lectures (through quizzes) you begin to earn extra credit, and the same goes for the discussion sections. The discussion sections were also genuinely helpful in solidifying the material for me as well.
I did alright on the midterm but felt fine knowing I had the boost of the extra credit. The final had to be modified due to the strike, but I did well on it regardless and didn't feel like it would have been too much harder under normal circumstances.
If you read the textbook, it would probably help you out, but I would not sweat it. I basically didn't read it save for a few chapters and got a good grade. Reviewing the homework questions and skimming the textbook (I think the textbook has practice questions too?) should be the best course of action. I would suggest taking this class!

I would absolutely recommend this class. This is definitely my favorite professor I've had. The class is super manageable, but at the same time, I actually felt like I was learning. I took this as a GE and had no interest in weather before, but I found myself really enjoying and having an interest in the class. The workload was super easy. The final and midterm were a bit more hard, but if you pay attention in class and review past homework questions and class quizzes, you will be fine. The class was only audio recorded and you had to answer quiz questions in class for points. Also, if you haven't taken a lab yet, A&O SCI 3L was pretty easy and all online. Overall, this class and professor were amazing. If you have the opportunity to, definitely take it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this class. Professor was very entertaining, and the final was not difficult as long as you studied. I finished in an hour. If you like learning about the weather, this class is for you; it's an easy and fun GE. I will say some of the content was difficult to wrap around my head, especially for the 2nd half of the quarter, so it took me some time to understand it. I would take another course with this professor.
