For all that smack talk that Pang gets, I actually preferred him to Henary. Everyone says that he's a good lecturer and his class is relatively easy, but I really didn't think so. I found him hard to understand because of his accent and because of how soft his voice was, even when I was in the second row. He tries to help us understand but I simply did not like him or find him very effective as a professor. I spoke to him at office hours a couple times too, and he seemed a bit abrasive. That may just be me though. I did pretty well in his class, but it was only because most of his TAs are very effective and patient.

henary isnt THAT good. lecture-wise, i actually prefer pang. theyre both pretty bad at teaching, though. henary also does this annoying thing where he would ask a question in class and literally ONE second after asking he would be like "Guys, cmon" then proceed to answer it himself. i guess he is more available in office hours than pang, but i dont know since i never went to office hours for either professor.

tests were medium difficulty. same type and style of questions as pang's BL tests. i was sweating on the final because i chose not to study my old labs, thus i wasnt sure about all the camphor lab questions. also, he pulled out some stupid stuff about gravimetric analysis on the last page...didnt even bother to read that part when studying since it was obviously just an intro to beer's law.

i literally was fending for myself in that class, though. i did not have old labs to look at. everyone in the class was a junior, so being a sophomore myself, i basically didnt know anyone. and the people i actually knew lived off-campus, so i was all alone. seriously though, make sure you get old labs and even CPRs. on the first CPR (about infrared spec), it seemed like EVERYONE knew exactly what each peak represented, even in the weird ass fingerprint region, and i could tell they all had old CPRs to look at. luckily i figured em all out...the labs were graded very fairly. my TA was awesome. unlike BL, there arent really practice problems on each prelab or postlab, so its very normal to get consistent 100%'s on your labs.

final grade: A. i would say that my raw score dipped in the A- range, but i suppose there is a curve or henary just saw i did well on everything.

I have heard horrible things about 14CL, but with Maher Henary it was a very nice and relaxed learning experience. Much of this has to do with how nice and helpful professor Henary is. He genuinly wants to help you and goes out of his way to ensure you get the most out of the class. He is very friendly and helpful. This is the complete opposite of Johnny Pang. I seriously recommend taking Henary for 14Cl even if you have to wait to take it. I heard terrible things about the class and was prepared for a horrendous experience, but it actually turned out to be a very stress free educational experience. A+ for professor Henary.

Dude, what is everyone's problem?! Henary is so much better than Pang! Yes, he does have a heavy accent. However, he is still understandable. Also, I found Henary very approachable--he was very friendly about answering questions and re-explaining concepts. He's such a nice guy! Also, his midterms and finals aren't too hard, although I do admit you have to work fast, at least for his midterm. However, his final wasn't that bad. I took him during the summer, and he gave us a full 2 hours for what he calls a 50-minute test, which was pretty good. Of course, in classes like these, the TA's count a lot, so GET A GOOD & EASY TA. They'll be giving you all your points, and believe me, postlabs are 48% of your grade and prelabs 18%. The midterm is only 15%, and the final 15%.
