I loved this class! Took it during the first zoom quarter. The prof shortened the lectures so we wouldn't be watching 75 minute videos every other day, which was much appreciated. Instead the lecture videos were shorter, around 30 minutes, with supplemental videos. The vids were always really interesting as were lectures. The lectures posted came with PPTs of the slides in the videos to help with notes. The readings were interesting as well. After some lectures, there would be a quiz based on the lecture content which were very straightforward if you watched the video and looked through the notes. There were also discussion posts required throughout the quarter which were useful in reflecting on the material. There was a Critical Writing Assignment which was a medium length paper based on a specific policy you're interested in. The midterm was on responds lockdown browser, no webcam, similar to the quizzes. The final was the same as well, based on the second half of the quarter's content. Also major props to the prof, she was the first of my professors, and most professors, to make the final optional and she had a very empathetic message for us when everything was happening with the protests. The CWA was also graded very generously due to everything that happened. Long story short, take this class with this prof!!
Readings are 80% of the work, I'd say. Lectures aren't all that engaging, but they were pre-recorded and we had access to slides, so it was easy enough to absorb the material in due time. I honestly can't recall the method of examination, but I vaguely remember a few essays, and never being stressed about this class. Professor was kind and sweet, but not the most accommodating of all my COVID professors, for sure.
