Summer 2021 - I took it as a GE also as a premajor requirement before my freshman year started. Prof Hunt is the most amazing teacher i have had in my life. Lessons were all pre-recorded and we had 18 lectures in total. Content is definitely very pact give that the course covers everything from 17th-21st century. I go to Prof Hunt’s office hour a lot to ask questions on assigned reading and she would be very happy to have a conversation. I have to say DONT TAKE history class if you have poor writing skills. This class is super intense (especially in summer quarter) and your prof/TA will not be able to help you on your midterm and final, which together weights 75% of the grade. It also largely depends on who you get as your TA but TAs are the one grading your paper, not the professor. In my experience, I did not have a pleasant time with my TA. I did not receive feedback on my essay from week 2 until the end of week 5 (week6 is final week). In general, would not consider this an easy GE but take it if you truely love the course content

GE Cluster 21A Prof. Hunt is a great instructor! She is incredibly smart and enjoys talking with students every day about anything and everything. She likes getting to know students and like helping them with questions and concerns they have. Her lectures are well thought out and very good. She has a lot of knowledge and knows what she is talking about when she lectures. She is also very funny and helps keep the lectures fun. She is a great duo with Prof. Jacobs and I definitely recommend the GE Cluster with her. As long as you're keeping up with the reading and understanding the main ideas that go with each philosopher, you'll do fine in this class.

Professors Hunt and Jacob worked wonderfully together. They are so sweet and really try to make the information relevant to today. I took the GE Cluster 21A and it was a wonderful experience. Although the readings were very intricate and difficult, they made you think (clearly Descartes, Hobbes, and Darwin evoke such difficult philosophies). The books we read were ones I wanted to read for awhile, books that you must read or know about in your lifetime, so I was very eager and happy to be able to experience all of these wonderful theories and read about them in one class at the same time. The midterm and final are pretty fair, I would recommend you go to lecture. That is where they really condense the information to you and give you tips on what will be on the midterm and final - they are mostly broad questions that are simple to write about if you attended lectures. There are two 5-6 pages papers that, depending on the TA, can be difficult. I would recommend this class, which requires a lot of thinking but very helpful and important material and readings. Professor Hunt was incredibly, both professors really showed how much they know and made the class look up to them.
