Spring 2018 - I only showed up for the first 3 weeks of class, didn't post in the online discussion forum at all (participation is 10% of the final grade), turned in my "Final Paper" 3 days late, straight up didn't turn in a course reflection (another 10% of the final grade distribution), and somehow still managed an A-. I don't think I'm a particularly good writer, either. I'm still confused, but I'll take it?

I love Professor Gallagher. His lectures really are interesting, I mean he made The Faerie Queene honestly enjoyable. I would feel bad when I was behind on the reading because he really did love what he was lecturing about and wanted us to enjoy it too. Granted sometimes he goes off topic about growing up on a farm, or gets a little abstract but if you're an English major, abstract should be no biggie.

Love this professor!!! He knows so much! His interpretations are so different from the usual ones given, it's incredible. He grades very fairly and he believes students should put time and enough effort in papers to do well. I was worried about his grading, but ended up doing great. He is very encouraging and will help you with paper topics. I'm taking him again because he is so awesome. He is willing to help on papers, and he is very understanding when you aren't good at something. His lectures are fun--he makes them interesting by providing pictures and not just pages of monotonous writing. He's so passionate about literature it makes me love literature so much. It would be a sin not to take him. TAKE HIM!! You won't regret it!!!

I've now taken Gallagher for English 169 A, 142 A, and a special one 199 with him. This professor is dedicated with office hours always trying to help his students benefit from this university. He is a jewel for this university and to say otherwise would be impossible because he represents the English major as it is. He also doesn't want you to repeat things in lecture because they are literally his own ideas with his intrests, but usually allows (if he doesn't have a T.A.) your own pursuits within the subject. Because I took the 169 A with him I decided to formulate my own project and he gladly accepted my challenge to write a master poem closely to that of Spenser himself. If you haven't taken a 142 yet be sure to take him because he doesn't waste your tyme with quizzes or busy work; just a "long" paper and final, that's all.
