I absolutely loved this class, literally everything about it! The content was interesting, the workload was relatively light, and the TAs (shoutout to Claudia) and prof were awesome. Prof. Frasure was beyond accommodating which was so lovely during such a weird transition quarter. The class is made up of 2 "Reading Critiques" (1 page, single spaced papers), 2 "pop quizzes" (announced one lecture before), a midterm, and a final paper (approx. 10 pages in length). The reading load is a little heavy (but honestly kinda skippable sometimes), but there isn't really any homework other than that. Prof Frasure gave us all the tools we needed to succeed on the midterms and quizzes, and the essays were graded very generously. My one critique is that the slides go by way too fast LOL but she posts them afterwards. I would definitely take a class with Prof. Frasure again!!
Frasure-Yokely is one of the best professors at UCLA hands down. She cares so much about her students, is funny, and her tests are fair. The one thing is she really cares about if you're late to her class, so don't be. Love her!!
This is definitely one of my favorite classes and professors I've taken at UCLA! The topics covered are very interesting and educational. Frasure-Yokley is very clear on what she and the TAs expect from students on assignments and quizzes. She's also really funny and creates the lectures to help prep you for the quizzes. The discussion sections are a great place to ask for clarification or go into depth on topics. The workload is super light and the assignments and quizzes are pretty easy if you pay attention in lecture and the discussion section.
Great class, highly recommend. While the professor is an engaging lecturer I found myself learning more from the reading material than I did in her lectures, but regardless a very interesting class and topic. Quizzes and tests and reading critiques were all very easy to ace. Use the test bank and you're home free. If you want to take an interesting political science class that won't suck the life out of you, take this one.
Professor Frasure-Yokley is the best professor I have had at UCLA so far. She is super engaging and genuinely cares about her students learning and success in the classroom. Her lectures are super engaging and she is very knowledgable/passionate on the content. She has a 5 minute grace period for class attendance meaning the class will start 5 minutes after the time class is suppose to start and any student trying to get in after that grace period will be denied entrance into class (Yes she has kicked students out for being late). Honestly I cannot wait to take another class with her as I have learned so much on the topic.
This class is probably the easiest class I have taken at UCLA so far. The reading quizzes are not very demanding; Frasure-Yokley pretty much tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes beforehand. The midterm was really easy too. Just study the slides. She tells you the important things to study before the midterm so there really are not any surprises.
Do not buy that big book for this class; it would come in handy when writing reading critiques, but you don't need to study off of it for the midterm and she puts all the readings on her website anyways. The reading critiques should not be very hard - they are only a page single-spaced. Some TAs grade harder than others; my TA was on the stricter side and gave my friend the shaft on a reading critique. Even so, she drops the lowest reading critique (and reading quiz) so a mistake won't kill you.
The final paper was easy. Just make sure that it meets the requirements in the rubric provided. My TA was very good about giving us direction for our papers to make sure they met those requirements. I would recommend this class to a friend.
The most straightforward professor I’ve had. My TA Chelsea Jones was super helpful and I used her much more than Frasure-Yokley. They let you know what’s gonna be on the quizzes and on the midterm so you know what to study for. As for the paper, I truly guessed on what would meet the requirements but I guessed it worked out! Just do the reading and maybe re-read it and you’ll do well!
This was a pretty easy class. Lectures consist of her reading directly off of her powerpoints which are then posted on CCLE, and assigned readings are entirely unnecessary except for completing 'reading critiques,' 1 page short analyses discussing/relating 3 separate articles or chapters of previously assigned readings. Tests and readings quizzes are easy, questions are straightforward, and she clearly telegraphs what material you need to study. Unfortunately, lecture can be pretty dull when she's in PPT reading mode, but she has a clear command of the information, communicates well, and it's a very easy class overall.
Professor Frasure is an exceptional professor and probably one of the best Poli Sci professors I’ve had at UCLA. She’s taught this class for over a decade and based on her knowledge of the material it shows! She structures her class with 3 single space, page length, reading critiques based on the lectures/readings, 3 reading/lecture quizzes, a midterm, and a final paper. The lowest score of the reading critiques and the quizzes will be dropped. Also, the lowest score you can get on the RC is a check minus which is a B in her grading scale! The readings are actually pretty interesting and she tends to make her lectures very engaging. DO NOT take this class if you can’t be on time!!!! She will kick you out of the class if you are more than 5 minutes late. She gives a 5 min grace period but as soon as that’s up don’t even attempt to come in or she will embarrass you in front of everyone lol. She tells you exactly what’s going to be on the quizzes beforehand so just study that and you’ll be good! The midterm was pretty easy as well majority of the class aced it. The most difficult part of the class is the essay which is 8-10 pages of writing but essentially 12-15 pages bc you need an appendix with maps and graphs, a title page, and a table of contents. But even the paper is doable not too difficult! Would highly recommend this class!!! She also uses the same tests and quizzes every time so head to the test bank or ask someone who’s taken this class for theirs and it’s a secured A!
