I have been an undergraduate assistant for Dr. Lavelle for three years now and going. This is an amazing way to develop confidence in public speaking as you will be teaching up to 200 students at a time. Also, for students that plan on taking the MCAT there is no better way to kill the chemistry section than to practice teaching it. Overall, being a UA for Chem 14A and 14B has been an outstanding experience.

Dr. Lavelle is a great instructor whether you have him for Inorganic Chemistry or UA for him. He tries to make all students feel welcome in his class and is an extremely knowledgable professor. I had a great time helping him as a UA, although I think the program could be a bit more organized. I wasn't too sure what exactly I needed to do and what I should be working with the other UAs on at first, which sometimes made it a little difficult to collaborate on things.

Working closely with Dr. Lavelle was an absolute pleasure over the summer. As a UA, I realized how much effort is put into making the 14 series courses as best as possible for the students by Dr. Lavelle and the UA team. As a UA, we prepared worksheets and questions for the students, and Dr. Lavelle always provided feedback to them so the students can get the most benefit from them. I am very much pleased, excited, and look forward to be working with him to help the students for the rest of my time as an undergrad.

Being a UA for Dr. Lavelle was a great experience. Not only was I able to share my knowledge of chemistry but I was also challenged to learn more by answering excellent student questions in office hours and chemistry community. Dr. Lavelle is one of the best professors I've had at UCLA who genuinely cares about student learning and growth.

Absolutely great experience. Being an undergrad rather than a grad student TA, many of the students are more willing to approach us for questions as we are more of their age and have just recently taken Chem 14A and 14B. Dr. Lavelle is a great mentor who sets aside time each week for feedback and advice on how to improve our sessions. If you have the opportunity to be a UA, you definitely should! One of the best UCLA experiences I've had.

Not worth it. Waste of time. Poor and mean instructor.
