In this class, we wrote an Op-Ed and a Feature. We had a final mini “TedTalk” on the Feature, which can be pre-recorded. Besides the readings, that was it as far as assignments.
I found Professor Hartenberger to be the perfect professor. She provides so many resources that help one formulate their writing pieces and we read many interesting works as well. The peer-reviews were a critical part of the class which I also enjoyed. She has mandatory conferences/office hours which are encouraging. She is very uplifting and kind in her review of your work - anyone can walk away and feel like their work is being recognized. One thing I have to say as a humanities major with no science background is that it may be helpful having some topics in mind to write about prior to class, if you find that you need time to come up with ideas like I do. However, I still felt welcome into the class and cannot think of any reason anybody - whatever their background might be, regardless of their writing levels - would not enjoy it.
