This class was literally the worst thing ever. I took AP Stats in high school so I already knew all of the content we went over (and I thought I was okay at it) but I still got a B+
In terms of his actual teaching, I felt bad for people that had never taken stats before because it was so confusing. I had to bust out my old high school notes in order to remember/understand wtf was happening. I'm not sure why it was so hard to grasp but I think he just overcomplicated very simple ideas.
The homework was ok and definitely helped me more than his lectures.
The final was SO HARD and he made us use TWO devices to video ourselves. He also changed his open note policy to be a 2 page 'cheat sheet'.
My raw scores added up to an A- but he curved a lot of people in the class down, so I ended up getting a B+.
Last minute (after we already took the final) he decided that the final was going to be worth 65% of our grade instead of the original amount in the syllabus.
The students attempted to contact the department to see if we could do anything about him changing the syllabus at the last minute but they basically told us to F off <3
Overall the concepts are very easy and the content is nothing to be worried about. However, the grading scheme will screw you over so I do not recommend taking this class.
So many complaints in this class! He has pretty unreasonable demands for the final ever since he found people cheating on the midterm, making everyone take the fall and not just the cheaters. His final can only have a cheat sheet, use Lockdown, and an extra device for Zoom on the side. His lectures are okay but sometimes focus on wayyyyy too many proofs and not actually helping us on example problems for the exams. His exams also consist of concepts he only touched very lightly. Overall it's not an enjoyable class, especially taking it online.
I felt very fortunate to have Kirill as my instructor for Econ41. He put so much time and effort to help students understand the material. There were tons and tons of examples in his lecture and TA notes to practice. I found many of his examples interesting and practical in real life. His final was NOT hard at all. If you do all HW and practice exams, the final should be doable and even easy. Office hours was very helpful. I thought people spent too much time criticizing Kirill or writing complaint emails to Econ Department instead of focusing on studying the materials. If you are not cheaters, why worry about proctoring policy? Overall, Kirill is a decent, fair, and caring professor for Econ 41.
I enjoyed Kirill's class. He was actually very helpful. I think what helped me most was the organized notes he provided for each lecture. In that sense, he was probably the best professor I've had. I still refer to his notes to this day. Kirill is personable and friendly. His exams were reasonable too, especially if you solved the practice exam. Best professor I've had for sure.
This class was incredibly tough. It’s hard, but you will get through it. You’ll be okay. Kirill is one heck of a guy, just do all of the homework problems and you’ll be okay. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it because he can and will explain the class material clearly.
Not sure why the other reviews are really harsh. I thought Kirill was very accommodating during COVID and ECON 41 is just generally a really hard class. I highly recommend going to office hours if you're confused because it's much easier to see him answer questions in real-time rather than over a recorded video. However, if you have no understanding of stats, I'd take stats 10 before this one because you don't get much review on it and the concepts in 41 can be hard to grasp otherwise.
