As someone who got a C+ in Econ41 I got an A in this class so its possible to do well if you didn't do well in 41. There's a midterm 30% and final 40% both multiple choice and 4 projects 30%. I just found it to be less mathy than Econ 41 so it was possible to do well. This is my third time taking Boswell as I took her for Econ 1 and 2 and I will be taking her again for Econ 104. Solid grading scheme and fair midterm and final. The projects can be a pain though if you have no coding background.
I absolutely love Professor Boswell's teaching style. Her slides include everything you need to know for the exams, and she provides ample cheat sheets for both the midterm and final. She is also passionate about teaching and is very understanding of students' circumstances. I paid less than 50% attention in lectures, but reading through her slides allows me to learn everything by myself. She also gives practice exams and weekly practice problems from the textbook, definitely recommend doing to get familiar with the concepts. On the downside, the group assignments we had to do were very time-consuming. I was fortunate enough to have teammates who each contributed something and always stayed on top of tasks, so choose your teammates wisely and don't procrastinate on the group assignments.
i highly recommend taking 103 with professor boswell! she's a very straightforward and entertaining lecturer and provides a strong foundation for the 103 and 104 series. the grading scheme is 30% assignments, 30% midterm, and 40% final. she is extremely generous with cheatsheets (3 doubled sided sheets)!!!! i found the midterm to be very fair and pretty similar to the most recent exams. i thought the final was extremely difficult (was honestly hoping for a 50%) and got an 82% so it was pretty chill. assignments consist of both math problems from the textbook and a little R, and you can either do it in a group or on your own. overall, i'm super glad that i'll be taking 103 and 104 with boswell!
Boswell is a great professor and provides plenty of resources for student success. The way I studied for this class was by doing her weekly ungraded practice problems, as well as my TA’s weekly discussion section problems. Then, about 2-3 days before the midterm, I would do all of Boswell’s practice midterms and time myself to ensure I could complete them within the 1 hour and 15 minute time window. I used this same approach to study for the final. Also, for each lecture, I would watch the recordings instead of attending them live, and I would probably spend an average of 2.5 hours on each lecture, taking in-depth notes. If you follow this weekly routine, it may only require 8-10 hours of dedication per week, and you’ll be able to retain the lecture material very well. I also never read the textbook, I only relied on her lectures.
This class was extremely well-taught, with strong slides and plenty of practice exams, homeworks, and resources to prepare for exams. The final grade was comprised of 30% midterm, 40% final, and 30% group projects. If you do all the practice weekly questions and make a good cheat sheet, you'll be fine. Taking Boswell again for 104!
