Some of the content gets confusing fast, but is manageable if you do Mindtap practice questions. The content before the first midterm isn't bad, the second midterm is where it gets more difficult. The exams are open book which helps a lot and the questions are pretty fair. She also gives practice midterms which completely reflect the difficulty of the actual exams. No curve though at least for my class. I would take this class with Boswell if you can.
boswell is a super good teacher. she is clear in her lectures and has neat, followable slides with recordings of all the lectures that you can look back on. her midterms were online was very manageable. the homework load is also very minimal
This class was both wonderful and confusing. The good parts were that the Professor showed a passion for the subject and tried to help us apply concepts to real-life examples through group projects focusing on real-life situations. The materials chosen typically helped clarify things covered in class and were not difficult to obtain. The bad parts were that sometimes topics became convoluted due to mistakes made during lectures or on tests and some of the material listed in the syllabus was never covered due to a lack of time in the course. The class could have been planned better and a few of the materials contained mistakes, however I feel confident in the subjects that we did cover.
I think I have to preface this by saying that a lot of my struggle came from my poor studying habits. I got destroyed by the second midterm but did well on the first midterm + final so ended with an A-. Prof Boswell seems like a very genuine person who wants to help you learn, and a pretty cool person overall. However, I didn't love/mesh with her lecture style much -- she wasn't the most engaging in my opinion and I found myself dozing off quite a bit (for comparison I love Surro's lecture style and format). Also Boswell always had the coolest drip so I have to respect her for that.
Professor Boswell is the best professor!! Her lectures are super clear and she always relates the material to relevant situations within the economy. She is super helpful and answers any questions/concerns in office hours. I would highly recommend attending Professor Boswell's office hours. The class consists of group homeworks, 2 midterms, and a final. If you can definitely take a class with her!
A really understanding and caring professor that presents in a clear manner (really good slides for people who find themselves skipping class often).
She always tried to find relevant material for the students, often talking about things happening in the present, and a lot of the group work also dealt with actualities.
Manageable exams if you study on time.
Overall, a great and very kind professor would take again 100%!
This will be my first time rating a professor on Bruinwalk because Professor Boswell is definitely one of the professors in the Economics department I was compelled to leave a review on.
One of the things I really liked about this class is how intuitive she gives concepts in econometrics. Often times, econometrics does not make sense because professors tend to skip previous foundational concepts you need to understand it. In every slide, she tries her best to recall ECON 41 and ECON 103/103L concepts that students may have forgotten to make us understand the underlying process of the "why" on the concept she's describing. Why is this important? Well, this makes the exams much easier because even if you forgot something on your cheat sheet, when you can recall the underlying concept she described, you will most likely answer it correctly.
ECON 104 is a difficult course; but, it is not impossible if you take it with Professor Boswell. She makes herself available through office hours and by the end of each lecture, so take advantage of it. In terms of exams, there are ample concepts and definitions. However, most of them are application-based. To succeed, make sure to include all the hypothesis on your cheat sheet as she wants you to master the interpretation more than the underlying code because the code, tbh, is simple.
TLDR: Take ECON 104 with Professor Boswell, you will not regret it.
The class was online with multiple choice, open book/note midterms and final so it was an easy class, however the professor was a bad lecturer and I feel like I didn't learn much at all in this class. Her lectures were all over the place, and sometimes she would repeat herself, or forget what she was talking about, or contradict herself in the next sentence. When watching the lecture recordings, I would often play it back multiple times since it was just super confusing to understand her overall point.
Easy A, but you barely learn anything and her lectures are boring, bad, and frustrating.
If you didn't do well in 103, you still can do well in this class with Boswell. very understanding and empathetic as long as you put in the effort. attendance dropped severely after the first few weeks and she notices this so if you want to do well, show up to class
the discussion hw each week weren't rly helpful imo but it's good to review and understand the concepts behind them
HEAVY ON HYPOTHESIS TESTING AND ITS INTERPRETATION!!!
