Kaiser is a great professor, both literally and otherwise. He was really good at presenting both sides of the arguments for and against god without making it clear what side he agreed with. The gradings of the tests were a bit iffy, but he gives pretty fair grades in the end. Unfortunately, his jokes to open the class came off as painfully awkward. Best north campus class I've taken. Sincerely,

Sam

Kaiser is an outstanding professor. The vast majority of professors I have had at UCLA (political science, history, and philosophy) have basically assigned a ton of reading, then in class they simply talk about the reading. Kaiser is different. He does not burden students with that much reading, but he rather creates original and interesting lectures. He attempts to get his students to actually think for themselves instead of just regurgitating what they have read. Not only that, but Kaiser is an extremely down-to-earth guy, engaging, and interesting. I only wish I had taken him earlier at UCLA so I could have taken more classes with him. I highly recommend any of his classes.

this class was interesting, although a warning for anyone who believes G-D exists. he tries to be fair to both sides but in the end he uses bad arguments to show how G-d exists or good arguments that he just does not give as much time to in going over them and acctually DISCUSSING them so they seem bad. he gives the midterm and final out early so prepare for them. but the TAs grade them and mine was a bitch when it came to grading. i put every thing that was dicussed in class but the ta seem to not care about that. i sould have got an A but we'll see what i get. anyway not a bad class just dont think this guy is the authority on the issue

great teacher... grades still depends on your TA... my TA graded tough on our midterms so didn't get an A... but still light load of studying since he gives you the midterm n final topics ahead of time and TA explain all the answers to it... so you pretty much do nothing and just enjoy his lectures =)

I know, it's been said before, so i will make it short and sweet. This guy rules!!! He's smart but not cocky about it. He appears to be very open minded to all of the ideas he teaches. Take him!

Prof. Kaiser is one of the best professors I've ever had. He really cares about every single student. His class is fun and really easy. He chose a TA for the summer session C that was like himself, cool, easy and logical.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!!!!!!

This guy is the best. Everyone should be able to take a humanities GE with him. If you EVER get the opportunity, do it!! He had to decline about 50 people from entering Phil 4 last quarter because there were already 300 or so people in the class and not enough TA's for 50 more.

Personally I liked his Intro to Religion (phil 2) class more than the Morals class (phil 4), but that's only my opinion (and only because we didn't really get into many of the cases he had planned in Phil 4.) Both were great though. For someone who had never taken any philosophy class in my life, he made the introduction to it very enjoyable for me.

Professor Kaiser is definitely the coolest, most down-to-earth professor I've ever met.

Prof. Kaiser makes it fun to learn about philosophy. His lectures were not only entertainingly funny and thought-provoking, but also clear and understandable. Although he does occasionally fall to redundancy, he does so only for the benefit of his students. He wants to make sure everyone understands the material before moving on to another topic.

As far as grading goes, both Philos 2 & Philos 4 are courses where it is probable to get an A. Although I was able to get a good grade in both courses, not everyone will do well. The grading is done by the TA's who sometimes neglect to follow Professor Kaisers' instructions on how the tests should be graded. However, if you talk to Professor Kaiser concerning your TA he will try to sort things out with your TA. I didn't have a problem with my TAs though. Personally, I even thought my TA for Philos 4, Brad, was pretty good(except for the fact that he wrote a little too much information on the chalkboard). He outlined basically everything we needed to say in order to get a good grade on the mid-term and final. He was also readily available during OH. Professor Kaiser was cool to talk to during OH too. The study questions for the mid-term and final are given beforehand. That's definitely a cool thing, as well.

Overall Professor Kaiser rocks! Take Philosophy 2 if you're into the exisistence of God stuff. Take Philosophy 4 if you're into other moral issues (e.g. the death penalty). Both courses are awesome GE classes that you should take. They are really a lot of FUN!

Kaiser is one of the few really great teachers I've enjoyed having at UCLA. His sarcasm and humor always kept the class awake, and made people comfortable to ask questions even in a 400+ lecture class. My only criticisms were his redundancy (occasionally), and his selection of TA's was extremely misguided - I would not recommend taking this class if you want to be subjected to a somewhat arbitrary grade, because they don't seem to follow his grading policies.
