There aren't enough nice words in the english dictionary to describe this man. He is an amazing professor who enjoys teaching. You can tell he is not just another science professor doing the teaching because he is forced to. He will help you do well in any ways he can. He sends the sweetest emails at all hours of day. He is very down to earth and courteous, taking every measure to thank students for taking his class. No professor Arisaka, thank you for teaching this class! I have heard hell stories of 6B, but with Arisaka, this class was far more enjoyable than even 6A. I am a person who despises physics, but he has made it tolearable for me. Do whatever you can to take this class, it is well worth it. He gives you every opportunity to do well, it is up to you to take the initiative though. 5 Stars for Arisaka, i really wish there were more professors like him.
I could not say enough wonderful things about Arisaka. I was dreading Physics 6B because I had heard that it was the most difficult in the 6 series. However, not only did Arisaka make it easy, but he also made it enjoyable. He simplified electricity and magnetism to the point that I COMPLETELY understood what was going on and I was able to do very well on his tests by simply understanding the concepts. GO TO HIS REVIEW SESSIONS and do the practice tests. Though his lecture may not be as useful, it is definitely worth attending. He does interesting experiments that relate to the course, and he is just so entertaining, enthusiastic, warm, and overall a great lecturer. He is so excited about his research, and his passion is contagious. As long as you do the practice midterms and go to the review sessions, you should do very well on both his midterms and his final so don't worry about your grade and just try to enjoy and appreciate his class while you're in it. He will send numerous e-mails, all very gracious and unbelievably humble. He thanked his students a million times for taking his class, and did it with the utmost honesty. If you have the opportunity to take him, I recommend him with enthusiasm. He makes physics enjoyable, easy to understand, and easy to master, and his personality is just wonderful to be around. UCLA needs more professors like this.
Professor Arisaka is one of the best professors I've had for Physics and for any courses here. He really cares about the students' learning and he makes sure people understands what is physics. His lectures are entertaining and interesting (the first time I felt time passed by fast in physics lecture.) Just do all his practice exam problems and you'll be fine. I didn't do that for the 1st midterm and didn't do quite well, but I still get an A, and so do his practice exams.
Dr. Arisaka is hands down one of my favorite professors at UCLA! His immense enthusiasm about the subject matter definitely makes class interesting. All of his tests are straightforward: if you put in the time to really go over his practice exams, you'll do fine. I highly recommend taking him if you have the chance.
Physics is my worst subject, but Arisaka made the material seem so easy to grasp. He explains abstract concepts very clearly (unlike many other profs), as well as being entertaining in the process. As for tests, like others have written here--thoroughly understand the practice exams he hands out, because the actual tests are based off of them. Although the tests may seem "easy," you actually end up learning A LOT in that class, more so than you would learn from "hard" teachers ... I was surprised that even now I was able to retain a lot of the stuff I learned from that class, because usually I forget them right after (especially physics). It's just a testament to how AWESOME this professor is as a teacher. Not only that, but he is one of the most passionate and kind professors I have ever met, if not the most.
I actually found this class fairly difficult, although I have never really been challenged in other science/math classes including physics 6A and math 31B and 32A. I found the material and Arisaka's teaching of it fairly abstract and difficult to grasp. At times, it seemed like Arisaka himself didn't really understand the material he was teaching.
On the flipside, it's true that his exams are very similar to his sample tests. His samples are also comprehensive and force students to review most concepts.
Professor Arisaka is awesome - I highly recommend taking a class with him. His lectures are very entertaining, and you can tell that he is concerned about his students learning the material. His tests are completely conceptual, but if you do the practice exams and understand them, the actual tests are cake. I am actually learning the material in this class, unlike 6A which taught me jack.
I highly recommend Prof Arisaka! He makes physics very interesting! And you actually learn the subject. I came into class, heard about the topics we were supposed to learn, and I thought it would be a hard quarter!! But, Arisaka made the subject easy to understand!! It was great! I took physics 6A with another prof, and hated the subject. But when I took physics with Arisaka, I actually enjoyed it! Try to take 6B with Arisaka. You won't regret it! He is a great professor and a good lecturer. His midterms were fair as well. They are very similar to his practice midterms. Do them, and you'll do fine. His final was long and harder than the midterms, but do his practice final and you'll do fine as well. When you finish his tests, you'll feel as if you have a good grasp on the concepts, if you know what you are doing. I had no interest in physics and I was not good at physics, but after taking it with Arisaka, I have a better grasp on physics, and I enjoy it very much. Take him if you can!! I got an A- in his class.
