Professor Jolna is the best professor I have had at UCLA. Women and Leadership is a very small class and you get to know everyone really well. She genuinely cares about all of her students and wants everyone to succeed in her class and in the future. She has connections to many powerful women and she has guest lecturers almost every week. The class was extremely useful, but also a very easy A. The only assignment is interviewing a female leader, telling the class about it, and writing a 10 page paper about it. The reading is interesting, but not really necessary to get an A. TAKE IT.
I loved her!
Taking her class is like a breathe of fresh air. She really cares about her students and will go out of her way to provide resources/advice/connections to help you on your path. I have found, unfortunatley, many teachers can be questionable in terms of if they are on your side or not. She is not like this; she truly is committed to your success. Also, the material we read is really informative and interesting; we also get to meet women leaders who have made a mark in business, law, literature, etc. I still keep in touch with her when something comes up, or when I need advice. Take her-you won't regret it!
Karon Jolna and her Women in Leadership class are truly phenomenal. Probably the most interesting AND beneficial class I will ever take at UCLA. Her readings are interesting and not boring at all. She easily ties in the theory with practice so that you can actually understand it! She has fabulous guest speakers and many opportunities are presented for possible internships and mentors. Every woman should be required to take this class. Not only does it help you think about your direction after college, Professor Jolna truly cares about her students and their success. I have heard that the Women's Studies department may be discontinuing this class - if they do, shame on them! This would be a huge disservice to all Women's Studies majors.
