Honestly, you can't ask more from Professor/Lecturer Lisovsky. Your final grade is based on 4 projects (3 essays, 1 video or 4 essays) and they aren't graded harshly at all + some hw on readings (1hr each). Even if you aren't happy with your grade, he gives you chances to REVISE/REDO essays and that will bump the grade up by 5-10% easily.
PS: You can literally be 15 minutes late to his class and he will still welcome you to the class, no questions asked.
ONE WORD: CHILL. TAKE HIS CLASS!
PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!!! I’m not a native English speaker, so I was worried when I saw the reviews before I took this class. But now I am very grateful to take this class with him.
This class includes four essays in total. The essays are nor challenging nor easy for me. Prof. Lisovsky posts questions and discussion forums that guides us through the brainstorming process. He doesn’t grade the papers harshly, and the comments he gives to my papers are very helpful. He allows us to REVISE the papers UNLIMITED times (if you have time). Every time I revised it, he would add 1-4 points to my paper.
This class is chill but I still learned A LOT. I highly (highly!!) recommend people to take this class with him!!!
The sweetest old man ever ! He tries to make his class as engaging as possible. I would definitely take his class again for the experience and help. He believes to better his students without saying that. I remember I went to office hours and told him my paper was bad and he tried saying in a nice way that my paper was good but seemed improvement, but like in a nicer way. I love the guy!
Professor Lisovsky went into the nitty gritty grammatical issues one could have before being in his class, and it wasn’t my favorite. However, this class was relatively easy. I think more than anything, the effort you put in this class is reflected in how much you actually try. I’d recommend going to office hours if you’re not satisfied with your grade and ask about your mistakes. Lisovsky was always super helpful with my grammatical issues as well as my wording. As much as others say that he controlled your writing, I didn’t really feel the control over my writing. I saw it more as giving helpful pointers.
I really liked this professor. I took him for English Composition 2 and I am currently taking him for English Comp 3. He is a very very very harsh grader, but you can re-do your papers as MANY times as you would like. Even though the grade doesn't change that significantly, it still is beneficial to try. He gives great feedback for papers and is a great guidance for intense and heavy papers. There are some quizzes, but he basically gives you the answers and most of them are open note and you can discuss with group members. I would highly suggest this professor, he is super sweet but also feisty lol. However, he is a wonderful and easy professor. English Comp 2/3 is challenging no matter what teacher you have, but he is super sweet and VERY helpful in office hours! I highly suggest that a student TAKES HIM.
I really liked this professor. I took him for English Composition 2 and I am trying to get into his class for English Comp 3. He is a very harsh grader, but you can re-do your papers as MANY times as you want. Even though the grade doesn't change that significantly, it still does go up. He gives great feedback for papers. You can miss his class a lot and still manage to pull off a great grade. There are some quizzes, but he basically gives you the answers and most of them are open note. I would highly suggest this professor. English Comp 2/3 is challenging no matter what teacher you have, but he is super sweet and VERY helpful in office hours! TAKE HIM!
He is very fair and you can re-write your essay as many times as you want. The only bad thing is when you re-write your essay it doesn't change the grade significantly. He is nice, but I did notice how singled out some students.
P.S stay on good side
Karl Lisovsky maybe an okay-okay professor but he is really harsh. I thought I was getting an A in this class but I didn't because he overlooks everything and looks at the times you mess up. You might have had A's on three out of four essays and done really well on the quizzes, he will overlook that and look at the holes. I got a B in his class. I regret taking it with him because his "sweetness" is fake.
