Take one of his classes. Take one if you're a geographer. Take one if you're not. Take one for a GE. Take one if you're done with GEs. Just take one!

Professor Zackey is a genuine, friendly professor. He's the kind of teacher that every college kid hopes in meeting... even if only for a recommendation!

But seriously, taking a class with him is one of the most valuable things you can do in your time at UCLA. Sure, you learn about the environment, or biogeography, or development issues, but the real lesson is in thinking. I knew how to think critically before taking the two classes I've taken with Zackey, but he'll teach you how to apply that skill to real-world problems and dialogues. If you feel like you've thought critically about everything, you'll probably be proven wrong (but in the nicest way possible!)

Overall, he's a great professor, his classes and assessments are easy (my apologies to him if he reads this haha, but they are!), you can knock out a GE or two and you can learn a lot in the process. I would certainly take his classes in the future and (obviously) recommend them. Believe the BruinWalk reviews! He really does a great job.

Very hard professor, but so very worth it. He is incredibly friendly and SO very amazing. You need to take this class (even though I studied way too hard to pass)

Professor Zackey is one of the most concerned, and most effective professors I have had at UCLA so far. I was not even interested in Geography before entering the course and after he had me considering a minor. He loves to get to know his students. Whenever I went into office hours he would take care of whatever I needed and then just asked me questions about myself and my interests. I only went in a couple times but he remembered me after only the first time I went in. The best part about Zackey is that he really does everything he can to make sure his students do well and he does not leave your grade completely in the t.a.'s hands (a common and annoying mistake made by many professors).

He is a really cool professor. The course is very interesting and easy to understand. I am a south campus student but found the materials of this course interesting. Just understand his slides and try to remember those key points. It is not difficult to get A.

Zackey is awesome! He obviously cares about the subject and is a good lecturer. He is very friendly and genuinely wanted to spark his students interest rather than acting like he is the god-ruler of the lecture hall lording over us ignorant student folk, like some professors here at UCLA. Anyways, the readings can be a little thick but they are generally interesting and worthwhile. Labs are discussions about the readings, and are worth 20 percent of your grades, with the midterm and final each worth forty. The tests are fill in the blank and short (paragraph) answer, but not terribly difficult if you study, plus he curves the tests. Overall, this class, and probably any class with Zackey, is worth your time and money and probably won't cause mountains of stress.

Professor Zackey is one of my favorite professors at UCLA. He's passionate about the subject which comes across in his lectures which are interesting and easy to follow. It's essential to go to class because he doesn't post slides online and some of the random tidbits he tells you can pop up on a test. There's one midterm and one final which are both pretty easy and don't require any intense studying to get an A. It's an easy GE, Zackey is a great professor, and the material is enjoyable to learn.

Dr. Zackey is a great professor and person. I took his Geo 5 class and wasn't left disappointed. The content is relatively easy, the weekly readings are interesting, and the exams are fair. If you put in a reasonable amount of time into studying and attend lecture regularly, there's no reason why you shouldn't get a good grade.

Professor Zackey is a great professor!! He's great at lecturing and keeping students' attention. He is a busy guy so office hours are very short but he's always helpful during them. The content is really easy and Professor Zackey makes it really easy to learn and do well in.
There's 1 midterm and 1 final and the rest are weekly responses to readings- and 20% of the 20% participation is showing up to discussion... Discussion doesn't add much but it's easy to be there and do the work for. Overall, great, easy, worthy GE class and professor

Zackey is a great professor. He truly cares about all of his students. Lectures consist of power points and they are not posted online so you need to go to class and take notes. Basically you need to write down whatever is written on the slide. The material is interesting and very straight forward. There was no textbook for the class, instead he posted different articles on the course webpage. There was never more than 30 pages of reading a week. Although the course counts as a lab, the lab is really just a discussion. Each week in discussions you have to turn in a 500 word typed summary/thoughts on the weekly reading. The class is based on a midterm and a final (each worth 40%) and discussion participation (20%). The material on the midterms and final came directly from lectures and the readings. Although I would not consider the material hard, it was a class that needed a lot of memorization since it was based on facts and theories. The final was NOT cumulative which was amazing and it was also during 10th week. He is a very fair grader and only curves up. I got a 95% in participation, 92% on the midterm and 89% on the final and ended up with an A in the class. TAKE ZACKEY! You will enjoy his class!
