Easy class, cool professor. There's no Midterms or Final, just a take-home exam (given 2-3 days to complete) that takes 2 hours max to complete every other week. Show up to discussions (yes, they do take attendance) and do the readings- it will help you for the exams.

Extremely easy GE!!

- There are 5 exams in total, one every two weeks, and only the best 4 grades out of 5 are taken. Originally they were planned to be 5 essays, but Professor Dunnavant made it easier by changing two of them to multiple choice questions (about 20 questions). The exams were all take home and open book. The essays were only 700 words, and the answer to the questions were pretty explicit if read the readings.
- Attendance was taken for discussions, but you could miss up to two classes and still get full points. Attendance for lectures wasn't taken.
- NO lecture recordings, but slides were posted online -- the slides aren't the best to solely rely on because often Professor Dunnavant explained things out loud without the content being on the slides (eg. only pictures or questions on slides and he would explain in class), but it was ok in terms of grades b/c the exams were based mostly on the readings.

Take this class!! If you're looking for an easy GE this is the one to take. I will say to pay attention to the slides because that's what most of the quiz material is on. The breakdown is 20% participation in discussion (you are able to miss up to 3) and 80% exams/papers. There are 5 and the lowest one gets dropped. The papers are based entirely on the readings which don't need to be read completely in depth. The quizzes are about 20 questions, open note, take-home, and come completely based on the slides. The professor is engaging during lecture and also really funny. The discussion sections can get a little boring but attendance is a part of the grade so I would say to simply try to go. Also, lecture attendance is never recorded which is really nice. This will be the easiest GE of your life and is also quite interesting.

Take this class. Pretty interesting and really easy GE. Professor Dunhavent does not make this a hard class to succeed in, especially if you have no background in archeology..

Loved prof Dunnavant. His class was so easy and he had slides which he also posted to Canvas. He was genuinely one of the kindest profs ever and the class was interesting. He also touches on multiple different kinds of arch.

Personally, I loved this class. The content was interesting (though, that might be because of my genuine interest in archaeology and not the class lecture themselves, since some students didn't seem engaged in class). Professor Dunnavant was extremely knowledgeable, bringing in specific examples of his research in underwater archaeology, and was happy to discuss how to get involved in field work during his office hours.

Attendance and participation were taken in discussion (not hard to achieve at all, it counted for 20% of your grade). Lectures were pretty optional, even though they weren't recorded since all information needed could be found in the posted lecture slides (attendance dwindled down throughout the quarter to less than half, but I'd still recommend going if you're interested in the topics and because the prof offered hints about the exam content). The remaining 80% of the grading was 5 "exams" which were just 700 word open book essays that you had two days to complete. All information could be found directly by control f-ing the lecture slides or readings (2-3 readings per week, most of which were 10ish pages and only required skimming, not engaged reading... not hard at all but I'd recommend at least looking at the headlines before lectures). Professor Dunnavant was extremely accommodating and made 2 of the exams be multiple choice instead of essays. Only your 4 highest exams out of the 5 were included in your grade, so if you got A's on the first four, the final was optional.

Would highly recommend as a GE or major prep class.
