Dr Smurda was really really nice! I would take the class again. The grade is made up of just a midterm and a final, with some participation credit from the discussions. Instead of a textbook, there are 4 readers (each less than $10) that you read chapters from in discussion. Definitely a do-able class.

Great class, great professor. She's really nice and funny and teaches this class really well. Pretty interesting class, not too difficult. There are 4 books to read, but you don't really have to read it as long you go to section and understand what the books are about. Overall, pretty good class, eded up getting an A-.

Dr. Smurda is incredible! I learned a tremendous amount in this class. Her lectures were fascinating and she delivered them in an engaging, hilarious way. I found myself thinking about the material all the time. She was also very intelligent, helpful, and kind. She truly cares about all of her students and gives them a great deal of her time, even outside of class during office hours. Please offer more courses from Dr. Smurda so we can take them from her!

She is pretty amazing I think. I really enjoyed her class and am looking to take her lab class also. She is so relatable and engaging, I never found myself falling asleep during her lectures, which are also podcasted.

Call structure:
40% Midterm, 40% final and 20% section grade
The tests are multiple choice but slightly tricky. Those "A, B, C, A &B, B&C, or all of the above" type questions. But other than that I really enjoyed taking her class and all of the mini-in class experiments definitely keep you engaged and on your toes.

Also, Lauren Harris the T.A. is like most adorable person I think I've met. She had study guides available and went over the readings in depth, which were only a few chapters out of a few books. No textbook for this course. This class definitely made me think about how I act around my friends and all the social factors that are happening all around us. A rewarding class overall.

Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about her subject matter, clear explanations of concepts, encourages class discussion. I enjoyed coming to her lectures, which are well attended, and never bothered with an available podcast. I found myself telling my friends about some of the studies we went over in class, which sparked some really interesting conversations. Makes you think about yourself and how other people influence your thoughts and behaviors. I would definitely take another class from her.

one of the best UCLA classes I have taken. prof. Smrda was clear, exhibited very deep knowledge of her subject, was always very complete and patient in her answers to questions raised. she obviously liked her students and liked to teach. I would not hesitate to take another class from her.

I had mixed feelings about her. She was often friendly, but I didn't like that she only teaches part time and talks about her children too much in class. I feel like I might know more about her kids than Social Psychology. Don't underestimate her tests. I got a C on the first exam and an A on the final. So, I got a B. Kind of sucks.

Dr. Smurda is such an engaging professor and this class is pretty easy. There's a midterm and a final - no papers. Her final isn't cumulative and I honestly only studied for five hours total for the final and it was so easy. Her slides are super clear and just make flashcards for all of the studies she talks about and you're good to go. You don't need to know names or dates for the most part and the studies are so interesting that I remembered them without studying anyway. I had a really good TA too (David Pinsof) and discussion was really fun. The 'textbooks' are just chapter books and they're all super interesting and easy to understand. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER

If you are gonna take Psychology 135, take the one with Professor Smurda.
As you expect to learn in a social psychology course, she teaches you lots of things about the social psychology area, and each of pieces of knowledge is really informative and you can really apply what you learned in the class to the reality and lots of situations and moments in your life.

She delivers the lecture in a really clear and organized way that you can follow her with her speech also by reading slides. Because of the fact that she will always give some small surprise during the lecture, the slides would not be posted before the lecture, but after the lecture. You can still review for exam by studying slides.

She is also a nice person that she is very available during her regular office hours and she is really willing to hear from students and talk with students about the issues about the course and more, so feel free to go to office hour and talk with her.
She also personally holds review sessions before the exams, so there are many review sessions you can choose to attend, some from the TAs, some from professor Smurda herself.

The class overall is not very difficult, but prepare to learn a lot because social psychology contends lots of information and it is really broad.
The grading during my Psych135 is: 40%midterm, 40%final, 20%discussion sessions, 1.5%extra credits by participating in 3 researches.
The exams are all multiple-choices, about 40-50 questions. If you do study a lot, you will be fine.

Overall, taking 135 with Smurda is a good experience, and it is both doable and enjoyable.
