Gardner is a good lecturer and a fair grader, with pretty comprehensive and straightforward exams, and a course reader that's actually not awful. It's definitely a class that rewards hard work, especially if you have no accounting background. However, the homework assignments are incredibly superfluous; besides Assignment #2 (which had you fill out a ridiculous number of journal entries), none of them were really relevant to the course material. In particular, the first assignment was basically Warren Buffett worship (she does that a lot in the course reader and in class as well). She also shows up late to every lecture, and often rambles about public accounting firms and her personal life. Despite all this, she is the best option, and you should take this class with her if you have to. There are no good management professors, so might as well go with the one that's the most fair.
Homework assignments were absolutely unhelpful; only 1/5 of them were even remotely relevant to the content of the class; in addition, the homework was graded harshly and it is hard to get all of the points, so either put in a lot of work or accept that you may have to make up for your homework grades with tests. Gardner is a decent lecturer and it is possible to learn a lot from her, but you need to do homework problems and go through the course reader to do well. I did horribly on the first midterm because I made the mistake of lazily studying, but pulled out a high-ish grade on the final through 3 days of grueling studying. Exams are EXTREMELY time pressured; if you don't know immediately how to solve each question, you will very likely run out of time before you finish the exam. Gardner is a good professor, but her class is very hard. Finally, the course reader was overpriced in the extreme, which is annoying since you must buy it (it contains all of the class notes and materials for homework) and you cannot share with friends.
