Professor Gardner talks relatively fast so it does take some adjusting to in the beginning. She also comes late to class often so the only time you really need to worry about being on time is on the day the assignments are due as she collects them beginning of the class. There are a total of five assignments in this class. They are graded pretty fairly but are not of much help for the midterms/finals. I wasn't able to finish the last problem on the midterm but still got a B due to the curve. I finished the final with a C+, but still got an overall A in the class. So this class is definitely doable as long as you go over the course reader and understand/remember what Gardner says in lecture. If interested, I am selling the course readers for the class and the pdf of the Financial and Managerial Accounting 7th Edition by John J Wild for $50. Price is negotiable. Email *************
Professor Gardner is always full of energy and trying to make her lecture as fun and engaging as possible. She often slipped into annoying territory but I definitely appreciated her effort and enthusiasm. Her course reader is a mess and very overpriced, but the textbook is extremely helpful.
One consistent complaint is that her tests were *way* too long. There was a massive time-crunch for both the midterm and final, but I felt that aside from that she tested very fairly. Exam questions were extremely similar to exercises in the course reader and textbook. She also assigned several individual and group projects throughout the quarter. They tended to be very time consuming but I felt that what I learned from them was extremely helpful or at the very least interesting.
I would recommend her over Ravetch in a heartbeat. Avoid him at all costs - he is a monster on a rampage and must be stopped.
I love Gardener! But man she doesn’t mess around. Her tests are near impossible if you don’t put in serious time. But once you do. They’re pretty easy. It’s just a matter if you can finish the test in the time allotted.
This is a really hard class. You really need to go to every lecture and pay attention to every thing she said in class to get a good grade. There's a group project and 4 other assignments. You really need to do all the assigned homework to fully understand the material, even though she does not collect them. Overall, it's a hard class that needs A LOT of efforts!
Professor Gardner sets fair exams that is very much aligned with the material in the textbooks, but she tends to jump from part to part when she is teaching, which can be a little bit confusing. The class has a lot of group work so be prepared to do a lot of extra work on the side. Also make sure to do all the examples in the textbook and actually read the textbook because it will help with the midterm and final.
