Professor Carney is one of the most engaging professors I have had at UCLA. Not only does she genuinely care about her students but her lectures are very interesting and easy to follow. The whole grade is midterm (40%) and final (60%) which can seem a little daunting but overall the exams were word for word her lectures. She is extremely kind in office hours and really wants to get to know her students and help them professionally and academically. Definitely take this class with her.
Best teacher I've had at UCLA. Really cares about the students learning and I believe she is teaching really valuable information that everyone should learn about. Inspired me to change my lifestyle and pursue food studies in Geography for grad school. Really awesome lady and really awesome classes. Lots of reading though, but the articles re not boring, they are pretty interesting and I am not a reader.
I think she really sucks as a professor.
I studied so hard for this class and I actually liked the subject but she gave me a horrible grade.
she is unfair and I think if you are even considering taking this class, you should definitely rethink that choice.
I would suggest to drop!
This course is not difficult at all, in fact it's very interesting about a modern topic in America, food! Prof. Carney expands on this topic thoroughly and enthusiastically and emphasizes on what concepts we should focus on for exams. She is a professor that actually believes in the student! I was about to change my mind in continuing the class, simply because of my weekness in geography, but she convinced me that I could do it.
Professor Carney is a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person. She always walks into class with a huge smile on her face and seems like she is just bursting to tell you about whatever subject she has planned for the day. Her lectures are sometimes a little hard to follow but she reinforces the important themes (things on the tests) over and over again and as long as you go to lecture and keep up with readings you will do well. She likes to know what students think, and the in class discussions are very interesting. She is extremely knowledgeable about everything she teaches and you can tell she really enjoys what she does. She is very kind to students and makes herself available after class for questions and just to talk. I can't wait to take another one of her classes!
