Winter 2024 - Two words: easiest GE. Simply put, I attended the lectures for the first 3 weeks of the quarter and then didn't attend any until the very last one. The professor pretty much reads off the slides during lecture so there's not necessarily a point to going (don't be a slacker though). However, he does not record his lectures but he does release all his lecture slides. Discussion is mandatory and every other week (based on your last name), you have to write a short reflection paper (~300-400 words) on the readings for each week. Newsflash, I also did not do most of the readings, I skimmed through them. The midterm was in-person short answer and a couple longer form questions. The final was a take-home essay, 1 mandatory prompt and then choose 2 from 4 prompts, each response ~400-600 words. The prof was super chill and understanding. Just go to discussion and take notes there as the TA will usually sum up the key points of the lecture which you can reference again when you do your papers!

Spring 2024 - super chill class. there were around 2-3 readings per week but you don't rly have to do them because he goes through them during lecture. there were some short quizzes (super chill), 2 short papers, one long midterm and one long final paper, and weekly discussion posts. The final was to go to the Hammer Museum and write a reflection about an environmental exhibit! attendance was not mandatory and he sometimes recorded lectures (although it wasn't a guarantee). There was one TA for the whole class so they split up grading everyone's papers (the prof was def an easier grader than the TA). The class content is similar to geog 3

Fall 2023 - This class was amazing. As an Econ major, I thought I’d take this class for fun and it surely satisfied. Professor Herrera is a great professor, very kind and is always student-first. He is very accommodating and understanding of our mental health while taking his class. His lectures were entertaining and very useful and applicable to the real world. This is one of those classes where the material you learn will stick with you. Weekly discussions and two papers were the only assignments and the grading is very fair.
