Professor is highly qualified to do research and knows the material. It is possible to learn a lot. However, he is condescending and projects his anger at the atrocities of history on his own students. This is not right. He has an idealistic view of how society should be, and therefore is not practical on the current economic and social conditions of the time. His views are extreme left and must be taken with a grain of salt; because taking his work seriously will lead an individual to negativity, anger and resentment toward the United States especially people of Caucasian descent.
His biggest turnoff are his rudeness, arrogance, anger and lack of clarity.
His academic work and lectures are interesting, but his personality has much to desire. It is probably best to stay away from the class unless you are real interested in the subject, want to learn from a highly educated individual and are willingly to put up with the unnecessary respect. No student should have to put up with such nonsense, and it’s sad that UCLA has allowed this professor to act in such a disrespectful manner for more than 40 years.
This class was not enjoyable because he was so unorganized. He played movies every class and wouldn't stop playing them till about 20 minutes after class was over. He thought it was week 6 when it was week 8. I turned in 2 papers that were randomly assigned and the due dates were never set so they fluctuated a lot. He threw a 20 page final on us at the end of class. We had a few days to do it. There's no homework which was a plus. So it was basically three papers. DON'T RECOMMEND!
Honestly, try to avoid this class with this professor if you can...
- we watched movies EVERY DAY
- he speaks in a low/Monotone voice -- BORING
- no homework- (plus side)
- Final: let's just say I turned in a 20+ page final, Which he assigned only 2-3 days before the due date -_______-
- no in class quizzes, but 2 midterms + vocab take home quizzes
- Plus side: Extra credit opportunities
Overall, can be an easy A if you work for it. But it won't be a fun experience at all.
super soft voice. easy class. goes over info during class but you wont learn much. You will learn from the TA. thats where you earn your A. Gives out midterm and final questions like 2 or 3 weeks ahead. Super chill. Reading and materials are alright. A tad dry like any history class. Again the TA helps so much!
Enjoy!
