Shoot me a price, just trying to get rid of books
I'm going to miss this teacher, as he is leaving to work at Harvard in the Celtic Studies department. I learned a lot in this class, even though it had a ton of reading.
If you are considering taking this cluster in 2017 (as it will not be back until then because 2/3 professors are leaving/retiring), I wouldn't take it if it was only taught by Jamison. She's a lovely woman, but her lectures were very dull and dry. Many students fell asleep during her lectures.
Nagy on the other hand is fantastic. I took his seminar and loved every minute of it.
But I will warn you, my TA for the first two quarters was absolutely awful. So remember, if you take this cluster (or any other cluster), you are allowed to switch TAs after the first quarter, regardless of what they tell you. My biggest regret was staying in a section with this awful Anthro graduate student for an extra quarter.
If you have a positive attitude and enjoy learning, this is a great class. It is a lot of reading, but I feel that I have now been appropriately exposed to wonderful texts in a very short amount of time. This class taught me how to read in college. The lectures are packed with info, so engage with the material and it will be more enjoyable. As to the quizzes, my recommendation is to take paper notes on all the assigned online reading, and use those to review, it's very helpful. The teaching team is made of great TAs, and you get the sense that they are all friends, which makes it a very enjoyable cluster. I highly recommend it if you are the kind of person who likes school.
