This class had a fairly light work load, 3 lectures to watch a week with 3 point lecture quizzes, lecture tests, lab tests, a final project, and the midterm and final. I took notes on everything the professor said but even when studying off the notes and course reader, his test questions were vague and poorly worded. They also were timed so it felt rushed. The lecture quizzes were easy points as long as you watched the lecture. Overall, this class was a lot of memorizing, and the tests were difficult but Professor Esdin is really nice, and his lectures were interesting. I’m selling the course reader, IProfile, and the notes for this class.

This class is easy in terms of workload. You have lecture quizzes you need to take on the same day (3 points each). I got full points the whole quarter except in week 10, as I was slacking and ended up missing a lecture. But in the end, he gives you a week's lecture worth of free points. My advice: TAKE GOOD NOTES. Even if you're confused, just write down word for word so you can look back on it. What's tricky: the wording of his questions (coming from someone who scored perfect scores on all his lecture & lab quizzes). I ended up getting 88/100 on both the final and midterm, which isn't terrible but I was quite struggling during the exam because the wording.

Also, I did not buy the course reader. You do need the iProfile for the project, but I paid someone $10 to use their account (you can make multiple profiles on the same account). So don't waste your money!

This class was cap. It was dry, materials cost over $100 in total, discussions were boring, and as someone who is relatively interested in fitness and health, this course was not engaging. It is easy and not too much work, however, for someone like me who became easily bored with the course, I couldn't stand it. I would not recommend.

Would highly recommend if you need a GE !! You're almost guaranteed an A if you do make an effort.
Highly recommend my TA Ingrid (she held office hours till 11pm the night before the final project was due lol). This class comes with a cumulative grading method with a total of 500 points. Do not miss the small 3-point quizzes that comes after every lecture (if you keep missing them the points will pile up). Also be careful when taking the midterm/final because every question is worth 4 points. These are parts where most of my points are taken off.

Also, I'm SELLING my brand new (completely unmarked) course reader & the required software at a discounted price!! Email me at *************

This class was easy and a great class to take for my first quarter at UCLA. You learn about health and exercise and I liked how it was relevant it was and how applicable it was to everyday life. There is one big project at the end but otherwise the workload is very manageable.

Honestly, I disagree with the other reviews of this class. I thought Esdin was a very confusing lecturer as he jumped around and constantly went on tangents. His slides were unclear at best and generally he wrote them out as he went, which made for lots of pausing and waiting. He posted lectures three times a week with a pop-quiz after every single lecture, so if you are bad with busy-work assignments like me, you will probably end up missing a bunch of these. The midterm and final were okay, and the final project was easy, but it was literally 3 days straight of copy and pasting without adding any additional knowledge. Overall, this class felt like a huge waste of time to me.

Super easy GE, and bonus points because it has a lab. When I took this class, the lectures were posted at 9am 3 days a week and you completed an attendance quiz on lecture content at some time that day to prove you had watched it. The attendance quizzes weren't bad. Discussion was once every 2 weeks which was nice, and the lab was just a project that you worked on throughout the quarter so it didn't feel too overwhelming. Get started on the project early and you'll be more than fine, and everyone I talked to in the class got a 95 or higher on it! Exams weren't too bad either if you were relatively prepared for them, and the class was sort of interesting and didn't have an overwhelming amount of content.

Esdin is a great teacher and gave engaging online lectures. If you just take notes on his lectures you don't need to do any studying outside of going over your notes for exams or quizzes. He makes participation quizzes every lecture day to encourage that. The project was a grind but it is manageable (not recommended) in one day if you wish. You need to go to discussion sections every other week which was probably the most boring part. But nonetheless an interesting class where you definitely learn a lot of useful stuff.

I loved this class! I needed a science GE with a lab credit, and this was the perfect course to fulfill that requirement. The material was actually interesting and rather easy compared to a normal bio class. Dr. Esdin is a great lecturer as well; he explains concepts in a clear and concise manner. There was also no homework, so the workload was very light. The final project is not hard at all, but it is a bit time-consuming. The midterm and final were all multiple choice. If you took good notes during the lectures, the exams should be fairly easy. I bought the textbook but did not really use it at all since the majority of the material was just review from the lectures.
TL;DR - easy and interesting course with a great professor, easy A, highly recommend as a GE with lab credit
