So yes, Esdin was the most personable of the three 111A lecturers, yet for some reason I feel like the past bruin walk reviews hyped him up too much as the professor "which saved and redeemed 111a". The content of his module objectively was the most interesting to me, yet his exams weren't as easy as both bruin walk reviews or himself claimed it would be. Nothing crazy with the exams though, just not necessarily as easy as people say. But overall, def manageable to get an A.

Esdin taught the third and fourth modules of PHYSCI 111A, which spanned weeks 7-10. Weeks 7-8 are motor circuits (lower and upper motor neurons; interneurons; cerebellum; basal ganglia) and weeks 9-10 are auditory & visual systems. I had him Winter 2022; all lectures were still on Zoom due to COVID-19, but discussions were in person.

I had Esdin for LS 7C too and so sort of had an idea of what to expect. This year he taught lectures at a slower, calmer pace than previous years, and as a result we had to skip a lot of topics that were supposed to be taught (I didn't really mind it, after all less content taught meant less content to study for the final).
Overall Esdin is a really nice and caring teacher. He wants to challenge us as students, but I think he also felt bad because our instructors for the first two modules of PhySci weren't the greatest and he sensed everyone was really tired. He made a ton of modifications to make our life easier, including keeping the all quizzes for his module online and open-note even though discussions had gone back to in-person, and his final was all T/F questions that were mostly extremely straightforward. He asked a lot of questions about experimental designs, so take good notes on the main experiments he presents in class.

Discussions are mostly the same across all modules. There will be two quizzes and two critiques in his part of class. I wrote down some tips for writing critiques in my review for Ketema Paul, who taught module I of PHYSCI 111A, if you need guidance on how to write them.

Like others said, Esdin is the reason why this class was bearable. His module's exam was the most fair, he was the one advocating for grades to be curved, and he's the one who truly checked in on students and seemed to care about understanding the material instead of regurgitating it.

I liked his teaching style, which used lots of diagrams and built upon previous topics to connect them together. The man is just awesome and is one of the best professors in the department imo!

Esdin saved 111a for me. He is by far the best of the three professors that taught the course for 22W, and adjusted his material to be more straightforward than the other modules. He is also really kind and answers questions fully and enthusiastically. I honestly think I learned the most from him overall because of his teaching style, and I would highly recommend him to anyone that asks.

While this class was hard, Dr. Esdin I think saved it. I did not take him for 7C, but he presented the material in that way, and his midterm for modules three and four were very fair. The way he talked through his lectures was very engaging, and I enjoyed going to his lectures. His material is the largest section of the class, and he has the most critiques for his section. Sometimes he would get behind on material, causing the papers to be even harder than they needed to be since we wouldn't have any background information. Otherwise, I would take this class again!

I absolutely loved Esdin's part of PS 111A! He was always so engaging in his lectures and spoke very clearly and concisely. I never felt intimidation in asking him a question after class and he definitely wanted the whole class to succeed. I would definitely take his class again if I could. His tests were a little challenging but if you pay attention in class and review you should be fine. I didn't really use the textbook at all and I figured it was more helpful for background information.

Dr. Esdin worries about whether most of his students understood the difficult concepts. Thus, he goes over the concepts extensively, which was helpful.
