I got an A in this class. Things you should know: Professor Dimuro will cancel a few classes due to illness, and he is very slow at grading (or at least returning assignments). It's possible you may have to write your second paper without receiving feedback for the first. Also likely is you may end up taking the final with little security, knowing only one of your grades out of five assignments. However, the lectures are entertaining and educational. If you can follow Dimuro, you can learn a lot from his lectures. If you don't understand something - and most of the class seemed lost at some point - do ask! He's open and willing to clarify. If you're here to learn, then it doesn't matter what your grade is or how dull some of the readings are. You can learn a lot from attending lecture AND listening. Participating isn't necessary, but it'll give you brownie points.

Professor Dimuro was one the first professors I had at UCLA and after having taken classes with a variety of other professors, I'm going back for more. Yeah, he canceled class a couple of times, but is it that big of a deal? Catch up on reading at Powell. Considering what you get with Dimuro--humor, lively discussion, concern for his students--the good outweighs the minimally irritating.

Oh Dimuro-you give such amazing lectures, loaded with very, very interesting information and I took copious notes everyday of class. You make the most boring material interesting and fun. I have learned so much from your class alone. You expect a great deal out of your students essays and I thank you for that. You challenged me and expected me to perform at a higher level than most other teachers on campus. I will not lie, some of the material is booooooooooooooring. But, you have done the impossible and made me a closet fan of Henry James.

Winter 2023 - This class was exceptional in its nuanced attention to detail when approaching American Literature from 1900-1945. However, it is definitely a challenging class - be prepared to be stretched to intellectual limits in the class and deal with complicated ideas at a fast pace. Overall, I'd recommend this class but expect a decent workload.
