Just saw that Jose is teaching 32A again so I'm leaving this review. While it has been a year since I took this class, I can still say that he is the best math professor I've ever had. Take his class if you can.
Great professor and someone you should take for a class like this. While homeworks could be a bit tricky, he offers to solve them in office hours. Notes do go by the book, but he usually provides alternative proofs to various theorems which helps with understanding. Exams were fair and he never tried to trick you. They were based off of in class examples and homework problems. I wish he were teaching 131B because he did a great teaching this course.
Professor Yanez is a very passionate and efficient instructor! He is always positive and tries his best to help all students. He is very organized, as he consistently posts the lecture recordings, notes before and after lecture, and suggested problems. For Math32A I highly recommend you keep up and do the suggested problems the day of or the day after lecture! It's a lot to go over all of them right before midterms. Go to office hours, he's very helpful and will walk through difficult problems with you!
Midterms are very reasonable; keep in mind there aren't that many questions (as the test is only 50 minutes long) and the professor isn't evil and won't put a completely weird question in there.
Amazing professor! I'd take him for all of my math classes if I could.
-He explains things very well and is happy to clarify things in class. He is also always happy to help in office hours and very understanding.
-Has two grading schemes to help you succeed.
-If you understand the homework you should be well prepared for the exams
-He makes the class very interesting and engaging (I really loved the class and enjoyed the material because of how he taught it)
-Posts his class notes on canvas (attendance not required but I'd recommend)
Yanez is the best! Trust me! he is super fair and not mean at all. the first midterm is super easy, the second is little bit difficult but he gives everyone curve immediately making it no harm. he also offers a second scheme, so if you fail one midterm, it's really ok. He is very fair very very, very nice, he tries his best to help us and explains things clear, also sometimes he is funny
Exams: Very fair and reflect what has been taught. He gives plenty of practice problems.
HW: 6 Problems (4 of which are completeness and 2 are correctness).
Lecture: Engaging and compelling lecturer but sometimes you may have to ask for a clarification which he always kindly gives!
Hard class but made manageable!
Absolute GOAT. Tests and homeworks were very fair and reflected course material well. Had a very good way of intuitively explaining more complicated topics before giving formal proofs. Highly recommend this professor.
