An incredibly fun and informative GE that introduced me to tons of great films: Die Hard, The Rider, Sorry to Bother You, The Big Sleep, and Moonlight among others.
The workload is not difficult but also not light. It really helped to get ahead and write out stuff before the due date. I did most of the work a week before it was due. There were 2-3 quizzes every week and the questions are taken from the lecture videos. There were also discussion board posts and “creative exercises” (writing prompts that required 500-600 words of description or reflection like describing an original fictional character’s bedroom) and a final assignment that could either be an essay, video essay, film treatment, pr mood board.
The material was very interesting and fun. It made me a lot more motivated to finish my spec script, and I haven’t even taken FTV 33 yet!
Film TV 4 was awesome. Highly recommend :)
Super fun class to take. Had bi-weekly quizzes with multiple hours of lectures on cinematography and films to watch. Workload may be a bit much at times but if you space it out properly you will be fine. Watching films is not too boring anyways. Discussions matter the most as they are worth a good portion of your grade, in which you write 300-500 words a week. Creative exercises and final project are not too challenging either. Put in effort towards this class and you will succeed perfectly fine.
super easy class, but also super fun and interesting. it was a bit more work than expected but it was all very easy and if you like film you'll probably enjoy the work too. the class is definitely reliant on your TA because of covid so try to get a good one
South campus major here; this class was really enjoyable. It definitely seems like a big workload, since you have to watch a 1.5-2 hour movie each week+lecture videos+a discussion post, but it is possible to skim movies/read short summaries since you just need to know enough to write a solid discussion post (200-400 words). The quizzes' answers are pretty much all found from lecture videos. Also I did not do a single reading so you don't need to waste your time trying to find the textbook etc. So even though it seems like it might be a lot of work, it is really easy to just do a lot ahead of time and get them over with. Really recommend if you're looking for an easy, flexible GE to do alongside other tough classes.
Awesome GE! Our grade was based on discussion forums, quizzes and creative exercises. Discussion forums are half our grade and are fairly easy to get full points as long as you follow closely to the rubric. Quizzes are not too bad and were basically from the lectures and/or readings. The workload seemed a lot initially but was very manageable to me as the quarter progressed. Overall, I enjoyed this class and I really did learn a lot about films. I highly recommend Lorena Santos as your TA. She was very nice and gave awesome feedback!
Really easy GE to get an A in. More work than I was expecting but it was all super easy and very consistent with no real spikes in workload. Some of the movies were really cool (Die Hard, The Hurt Locker) and some put me to sleep (art cinema week). The quizzes were the easiest things ever and pretty much every question was verbatim from the lecture transcripts. Discussion forums were boring but easily graded. Look at the creative exercises early, some are much easier to do than others. Def recommend as a GE as it also gives you the tools to act like a film snob even if you don't know what ur talking about
There are weekly quizzes on content from the movies we were supposed to watch each week, but I got away with never actually watching the whole movie unless it was interesting to me. The lectures do a good enough job of explaining the pieces of the movie and content you will actually be quizzed on. My professor was technically Kuntz but all the recorded lectures were done by Trice, and I think she did a really good job of explaining topics. Easy class overall and definitely easy to finesse in an online environment.
