Winter 2022 - An incredibly fun and informative GE that introduced me to tons of great films: Die Hard, The Rider, Sorry to Bother You, The Big Sleep, and Moonlight among others. The workload is not difficult but also not light. It really helped to get ahead and write out stuff before the due date. I did most of the work a week before it was due. There were 2-3 quizzes every week and the questions are taken from the lecture videos. There were also discussion board posts and “creative exercises” (writing prompts that required 500-600 words of description or reflection like describing an original fictional character’s bedroom) and a final assignment that could either be an essay, video essay, film treatment, pr mood board. The material was very interesting and fun. It made me a lot more motivated to finish my spec script, and I haven’t even taken FTV 33 yet! Film TV 4 was awesome. Highly recommend :)

Spring 2020 - This class was amazing and Professor Kuntz transitioned to remote learning extremely well. All lectures were pre-recorded and so informative. The textbook is 100% not necessary and I didn't watch all of the films and still ended with an A. He is just such a pure soul and I wish I could take the course in person.

For FILM 106A (not 106B): The class was a great upper-div GE. Professor Kuntz is very knowledgeable about the course, and is very rehearsed and his lectures are very organized. The class is graded on 5 components, 20% each: 2 papers (1 historical and 1 formal analysis), 2 exams (1 midterm and 1 final) and discussion participation. It was a lot of work, and it's easy to see why the course is 6 units; there is a LOT of information required for the papers and exams. While the class is long, there's only about 1.5 hours of lecture per class, about a 10-15 minute break, then a movie; usually you'll get out about 15 minutes before class officially ends. Staying for the movies is a great idea, especially with the beautiful projector, but it's not as needed because you only need to see a few of them for the exams and papers. There is apparently no curve, but they "consider your improvements in the class." Overall, it's a great class if you're willing to dedicate the time to it.
