First of all, any bad reviews are from ridiculous 14 series kids who wish they could handle a real chem class. It's honestly not that hard to get an A. All you have to do is know what you are doing in lab. Quit expecting everyone to hand things to you. Study for the tests from lecture notes, the lab guide, and (if you have time) the book (not necessary). I only studied the night before and did fine. Be friends with your TA (she'll help you do some of your stuff!). And for all you 14 series kids, your last experiment in 14cl is our 3rd experiment in 30al (and we still have 30bl and 30cl after it). So stop complaining. (By the way, I'm a life science major too (neuroscience), but I just decided to not cop out.)
I must agree with the reviews directly below. Prof Pang's scariness and "evilness" are greatly exaggerated. He's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet inside or outside of class. I don't know how he was for 20L but for 30AL, he was always patient and explained everything multiple times until everyone understood. He always held OH just before labs so that all last second pre and post lab questions could be answered. The only grading he does is midterm and final, TA does everything else. SO if you got a bad grade, blame your TA not Prof. Pang cause he only puts in what the TA grades. As for the midterm and final, he TELLS you exactly what's gonna be on them. His practice midterms and finals are very similar to his real ones. The one realization very few people seem to have in his class is that STUDYING IS NECESSARY! Generally the difference between A's and B's in his class are those that study hard for his tests and those who don't. The key to doing well on the labs is to simply show up at his OH's and ask questions. Overall i highly reccommend this professor if you want to learn something useful and fun in OChem.
