Professor Pang is an awesome instructor. He really makes you understand chemistry and labs on a conceptual level rather than just mindlessly plugging away at equations and not making sense of them. He is extremely kind and patient! If you don't understand a concept and attend his office hours, he will make sure that you will really understand it. I highly recommend taking Professor Pang

This class was fine except the final. It was so hard for no reason. I don't get why there is even a lecture and final for a lab anyway. I def would've gotten an A if it weren't for the final.
Dr. Pang is a good lecturer but the class is just too short (50mins). I would recommend going to lectures still though, even if it's at 8am. He is helpful with answering questions too.
The class is mostly just the weekly Lab, with a Pre-Lab and Post-Lab that really weren't bad. Sometimes they would take a bit but they really weren't bad. Two of them were in teams as well, which could be split up. Then there's a 50 min lecture once a week, but it would sometimes be like two weeks before the Lab which was weird and confusing. Just try to keep track of which lecture is on which Lab and which readings you should be doing when. Lecture is not required but Lab definitely is. I got 5 EC points for going to Lab the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Office Hours aren't that helpful unless you have a specific question.
I recommend reading the textbook which is online. Esp 2-3 weeks before the final to study. And FR study for the final. It's mostly just what he did in lecture.
For the Labs definitely read the instructions carefully beforehand so you'll know exactly what you're doing and you can move through them quickly. You get to leave whenever you finish.
Overall, I actually liked the Labs, the only thing I didn't like about this class was the Final and studying for it.

My TA was Kevin and he was awesome. Totally get Kevin if you can. He graded pretty leniently too.

Dr. Pang is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is so genuine, kind, and enthusiastic about both the subject matter and teaching the material. The class is a bit more difficult than 23L, but it's also less work overall. The labs are interesting, and I felt accomplished after getting things to work properly. I highly recommend taking this class alongside 14B not only because you don't have to relearn titrations for this class, but because Dr. Pang explains concepts from that class better than the professor I had. The exams are very easy if you study at all (I barely studied and got an A), and the labs and lab reports are very doable, especially if you can go over things with friends. Overall, this has been my favorite chemistry class I've taken at UCLA, and in no small part by how wonderful Dr. Pang is.

Dr. Pang is the sweetest professor! He'd remembered me somehow and then email me for something I had emailed him back for a while ago, so it is really nice having a professor that genuinely cares about his students. He even bought candy for the class for Halloween!

8 am lectures kinda suck, but it's non-mandatory attendance. I never went to any other than the halloween one and still did fine in the class, as what he teaches is on the slides and the problem sets he posts. Labs are not bad, if you're lab partner is good it can be enjoyable. Post-labs and pre-labs sometimes take a bit of time to do. Some busy work is involved, but not too hard. Midterm was very easy, but the final was a little tricky.

There are some required materials - the blue lab coats, goggles, a duplicator notebook, and the lab manual. The manual you can probably borrow from a friend to take to labs / get an online link from somewhere for use otherwise. 10/10 would recommend, it was a fun class!!

14BL with Pang was the best! He is amazing and really cares about his students' learning. TAKE IT WITH PANG!! With that said, the two most important things to study (for midterms and finals) are his practice sets and lecture slides. The midterms and finals looks just like the practice set problems. For the summer, the midterm was 12% of our grade and the final was 30%. However, post labs are really what matter since they are worth 28% which is double the midterm. Go to TA and Professor office hours, they help!

Probably the best chem professor I've had to date. His lectures were understandable and engaging, and he's a very earnest guy who is eager to engage with students. I also got lucky in having very reasonable TAs in terms of grading the labs, but I don't think any of the other students had major problems with their TAs being super harsh on grading. Obviously the workload is pretty significant, since you have a pre-lab and post-lab assignments every lab period, but only the first couple are hard because you have to get the hang of it. All that said, take 14BL with Pang if you can, you won't regret it.
Also be aware of the cost of taking this class: $120 for a lab coat, ~$20 for the lab manual and probably another ~$15-20 for the lab notebook, if I remember correctly. That caught me unpleasantly by surprise. Although, I was able to get a secondhand copy of the lab notebook on Amazon for a little cheaper than the one they had at the store.

SUPER RECOMMEND PANG. I took this class in summer and even in only 6 weeks & during COVID it went so satisfyingly smoothly. 14BL with Pang is in my top 3 classes with the least hassle, and Pang did a great job transitioning to remote teaching.
LECTURE / CLASS: All the material for each week would be uploaded early in the week so you had total flexibility to go at your own pace. There weren't any synchronous lectures, rather Pang had little bits of voiceover recorded and embedded into his PowerPoint slides which he would upload to CCLE; these "lectures" were straightforward and often took me less than 30 minutes each to go over to & take notes. DISCUSSION: We only had one synchronous element in this class, a "workshop" every week with mandatory attendance. The TA would go over the lecture content and give you some problems to do with peers. Boring but simple, so not too bad. HOMEWORK & ASSIGNMENTS: Homework problem sets were chill, stuff straight out of lecture slides; virtual lab reports (VLR) had a bit of busy work but were simple enough that you could do them with some help from lecture slides and the support videos (e.g. teaching how to chart stuff on Excel) on CCLE. We had one writing assignment which I was nervous about going in but it's actually very simple, mostly just googling + putting info together cohesively, and Pang offered a bunch of extra credit on top of it depending on which grade you got (the higher your assignment's grade, the more bonus you'd get). GRADING: Grading depends a bit on the TA; I had Amir Nasajpour and he was pretty chill with grading and answering my questions. EXAMS: Midterm and final were extremely fair -- about the same length and difficulty of problem sets -- and we had 24 hours to complete each one.
BOTTOM LINE: Would 100% take 14BL with Pang again and if I have the opportunity will take 14CL with him too.

This class was a nice review of Chem 14A and 14B. The structure of the class was quite different due to COVID and we were expected to learn content on our own. I definitely recommend reviewing the lecture slides and lab videos before hand to prepare questions for office hours. Dr. Pang is really helpful during office hours and takes his time making sure you understand every concept. Since this was a summer class, the assignments were quite a handful, but they were not hard to complete. Review the powerpoint questions and practice problems a few times to prepare for the final and midterm. Overall, this class was pretty great!
