By far the most fun, interesting, valuable class I have ever taken. My confidence grew in public speaking and Kochian is the nicest teacher I have ever had. He always reaches out to help in the class and always loves to crack jokes and talk after class. Very friendly and extremely helpful. By far my favorite teacher I've ever had.
We had 3 graded speeches in this class and Kochian is very good at giving advice on how to improve, while always staying positive. I look forward to going to this class every day.
If I could take this class again, I would.
this class was great! even if you don't have a background in public speaking, it's easy to do well and learn a lot. the class consisted of 3 speeches (cultural artifact, informative, persuasive) and a 4-6 page paper as the final exam. i would highly recommend taking this class, especially if it fulfills a requirement for you, as practice is really the only thing you need to succeed.
Love this class! Professor Kochian is a really chill person, he's funny, and likes to keep class light-hearted and enjoyable. He tries to make sure that you are comfortable with your material for your speeches and overall this was a great class to take. The course reader he has you buy is necessary because it has all the speech prompts inside that you'll need as well as some formatting information. This class is super easy, there's no homework or tests really except for writing your speeches (there were 4 for the whole quarter) and a final paper at the end that's easy. Highly recommend taking this course, Professor Kochian is a fun/cool professor to have.
He's very encouraging to all students and lenient about those who have a hard time comfortably presenting themselves in public speaking. He gives straightforward and detailed advices on the spot, which were quite helpful to me.
I'm selling his course reader for $45! Text me: **********
I made a bruin walk account solely for the reason to write a review on Kochian. He's absolutely hilarious and makes it so easy to connect with the rest of the class. The freedom of creativity he gave us with the speeches made the class so enjoyable and he truly graded us on our ability to improve our public speaking skills rather than be the best public speaker there is. He took into account the different personalities and that not everyone is super outgoing and naturally gifted with public speaking. I have yet to find a class that I would literally take 10 times over here at UCLA, until I took comm 1 with kochian. Loved him. YOU GO KOCHIAN YOU GO.
Fantastic instructor! So caring, and conducive to personal growth as a speaker. Creates a very comfortable learning atmosphere, even for folks who aren't confident in their public speaking skills.
Highly recommend him.
Took Comm Studies 1 with Kochian in Spring 2014! Received an A in the course!
Have the course reader to sell! Same from year to year! Has the outlines and speech examples. UCLA store sells for $66.75!
Willing to sell for $45
