This was by far the worst professor I have ever had. He uses slides but they're all pictures he finds online or photos of the places he's traveled to. The required textbook is not in any way helpful. The exams are totally different from the course material. Although I took notes and actually knew the material, the exams ruined us all. As a result, I failed my midterm, but his curve set me at a C. He also curved the final, and I ended up with a B- in the class, but I know that I could've gotten an A. In conclusion, don't take this class with him. Take it with Gillespie. Also, I have the textbook in pdf version for free. Text me if you want it **********
This dude was the worst professor I have ever had. He does use slides; however, all the slides just consist of pictures and no text. The textbook has absolutely no correlation to the lectures and when asked during lecture which part of the textbook the lecture correlated too, he brushed it off with no answer. I do believe professor Miller is a nice man, this is definitely just not his area of expertise. My TA even agreed with this as she was fairly upset with how the class was being taught. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH MILLER. IT IS NOT AN “EASY GE”. Save yourself the time. The only thing I enjoyed about this class was the lab with my TA.
Dr. Miller is the worst professor I've had so far. The exams were based entirely off of lectures, which were disorganized with no concrete point. He posts the slides, but they are all pictures of places he traveled to. He said that the exams would be based on the readings and the lectures, but were mostly based on lectures with the only questions from the readings being oddly specific and obscure. He also has this monotone drone that makes it difficult to focus during class. The TAs were all pretty chill, and thankfully they have control of 50% of your grade. Regardless, he still does not communicate with the TAs, and they did not know what would be important to study for the final. Overall, I felt bad for him because he could not control his class and it seemed like his first time teaching, but he should not have been able to teach this class in the first place
Just gonna get straight to the point, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR! He will just give you migraines with his unorganized lectures and refusal to provide any advice on the midterms and finals. His slides were just pictures of places he has visited and nothing else. The slides serve to help him, NOT YOU. Readings, lectures, and labs do not sync at all. Labs were literally a waste of time but saved my grade because you now I bombed the midterm and final. Miller is a knowledgeable man, I'll give him that, but he is not a good professor. He will confuse you, bore you, and make you want to skip all lectures.
If you end up having to take this class with this man, the only advice I would give is to find a group and split the readings up between you all and take notes on them. Questions from the readings will be on the midterm and final, so it is important that you do take notes on them. Good luck and god speed
Do not take this class. This was by far the worst class I have ever taken at UCLA. The professor had no substance to his content, rambled on for long periods of time, did not have useful slides, and ultimately gave no guidance to his students. He failed to make the material informative and useful. There is one midterm, one final exam, and one final project that constitute your final grade. He claimed the midterm and final exam were a combination of his lectures and the book, which was a complete and utter lie, as it was solely based on his lectures that made no sense and had no substance. Do not make the same mistake I did and take this class. It is not an easy G.E, it will ruin your GPA, and the professor simply does not know how to teach. The entire quarter was a joke and almost everyone in the class could agree. 0/10 would not recommend.
Hands down WORST class that I've taken at UCLA. The workload was a joke and I learned nothing. Class was extremely boring all he does is talk about the same slide for 1hr+ (which are just pictures that he took for his research, weird flex but OK). I feel bad for the people who took this class as a letter grade because no one knew what was going on. Bottom line: Avoid this class/professor like the plague.
This professor is pretty bad...I mean he's such a nice and mellow person but academically, he goes on HUGE tangents. like i have not learned a single thing... DO NOT TAKE HIM! I took this class for an EASY GE and IT AINT IT CHIEF! He has literally no words on the slides only of pictures and he talks for a whole hour straight. I went to every single lecture and studied for the midterm and final yet the test was like...wtf is this. So i bombed tht and yea...I went to office hours to show him my study guide and it didnt help at all
Hahah this class made no sense. His discussions, the book, and his lectures are completely unrelated. No one knew what was really going on. Horrible low averages for a GE (60s). I haven't learned anything. The TAs were pretty nice though.
