Quarter: Winter 2018
Grade: A-
April 9, 2018

I’d like to preface this by saying Torrecilla is a wonderfully energetic professor that really shows how much he loves Spain. His Spanish is excellent to learn from for people that don’t speak it as their native language.
However, with regard to the class, this class is a waste of time. I come in brain-dead, I leave brain-dead, and I still get an A. There’s little to no critical thinking in this class, and anyone can easily get away with not reading the texts all quarter. When I look for a good Spanish class, I look for an engaging professor, active class, and a lot of growth in Spanish. It is an extremely Eurocentric and outdated curriculum, and I didn’t learn anything practical for the real world. If anything, please incorporate more contemporary/modern readings and readings written by non-European authors.

Quarter: Winter 2018
Grade: A

This class with Torrecilla is pretty simple. There are two essays, a midterm, a final, and some section participation points. He gives you the essay prompts in advance and the tests were pretty fair which was nice. His lectures can be kind of boring and he sometimes fails to cover all the information but when he does cover things he covers them extensively. It's not super necessary to really do the readings in depth but there are reading identifications on the tests. Overall it was a pretty easy class but not the most interesting.
