Loved this class!
It is mostly reading based but all the chapters and papers are engaging and interesting and all related to what we are learning. Also, you have to read! The quizzes are based on the readings and the lectures but don't worry it's only 5 questions but it is timed so you can't really check your reading notes.
We only had like 1-2 papers which were like 1-2 pages. We had a group grade so you have to participate in your group in the discussion sections because your group members will rate your participation at the end of the quarter. Also, we had weekly discussions on CCLE answering the professor's questions and responding to other students, but these are informal responses so don't worry too much.
Collett and the TA's make the concepts understandable which is why I believe I found this class to be easy, nothing is glossed over and everything is connected to one big concept, plus we had supplemental videos that really went into depth on some of the topics covered in lecture. Collett is also very supportive and hosted midterm and final review sessions and her emails are cute, the ccle page was well organized, and her motivational posts on the midterm and final tabs were really encouraging.

Also, it really requires you to stay on top of your work. 4-6 readings a week and all mentioned at least once on the midterm and final but it was not hard, do-able if you organize your time well, take good notes, and can see the bigger picture

I took this my freshman fall b/c I heard it was an easy A ge, but now, in my 3rd quarter at UCLA, it really wasn't that easy lol. I think most people were happy w/ their grades at the end of the quarter, but we had like 3 timed quizzes based on accuracy a week + extensive lecture and readings to absorb + tough midterms and final. The exams were 15+ mc, 3-5 short answer, and 1 essay question and they were doable, but definitely felt tough b/c, even though they were open notes, there was no time to look at them and there was just a lot of content being asked about in a short amount of time.
It's overall a fair class w/ really interesting lectures, but definitely not as easy as older reviews make it out to be.

Great class, super interesting and I found Prof Collet really engaging. I took it async, so the class was super flexible with my schedule. There's one short paper (approx. 2 pages iirc), but it's not super complicated. Exams are true/false, multiple choice, and then there's a short answer section and an essay question. Not too difficult, but definitely review the main ideas of each of the readings before starting the test, that'll really help for the short answer/essay sections. The expectations for the class and each week are clearly laid out, and so as long as you pay attention and keep on top of the work you should get at least a B no problem.
