Professor Rabow cares about the students and genuinely enjoys teaching, but he is quite old and his hearing is fading. His class is structured so that students are encouraged to participate and speak up. We discuss sensitive, relevant topics like racism, identity, and inequality on a more micro, psychological level as well as on a societal level. Therefore, sometimes there is tension during discussion.
We had to post five times on CCLE, write a reflection paper on a group activity, tutor at a school 3 hours per week, and conduct a creative final project in addition to the weekly readings. There is a reason why this is a six unit class.
Rabow is wonderful... He's a gem and you should take his class. The kinks are worked out of his Honors class and it is just wonderful. His syllabus is clear and concise. One of the best classes I have ever attended in my life. You learn a lot about society and its conceptions of racisms.
