This was an amazing class! Professor Silvers is so kind and genuinely an amazing teacher, I think she is one of the best teachers I have ever had because she makes you feel so comfortable when she lectures because she makes so many jokes and gives great examples. Her TA's are great too! I had Siobahn and she was such a big help to me and always understood my questions. I had to miss discussion about 4-5 times and I was always able to make it up and they were very understanding.

Although this class was enjoyable it was hard. This class took more time than any other of my classes. You HAVE to read the book AND watch the lectures. And I know you might be thinking you can get away with not reading the book, trust me I felt the same way till I saw my first midterm score. There will be questions on the test that come ONLY from the book NOT from the lectures. You can skim the book tho, I never spent more than 4-5 hours a week reading the book.

The class is fun and teaches you a lot but you really have to make sure you don't fall behind because each lecture is dense with information!! You got this!

I am surprised that Professor Silvers does not have any reviews! She is by far my favorite professor at UCLA . She is so funny, passionate about the subject and very approachable. Her tests are not hard at all. If you simply go to class and put in some time to study you will do just fine. I personally thought her tests were way easier in comparison to tests in other psych classes. The class consisted of 2 midterms and a final (she drops the lowest midterm), 3, short 1 page reflection papers and participation in discussion. I never stressed about this class and actually enjoyed going every lecture even though it was bruincasted. Seriously, take Silvers you won't regret it.

I took this class because I'm part of the ADP minor, but I would recommend it to all psych students! All of the topics are super interesting and Dr. Silvers does a great job of keeping you engaged during lectures. Lectures are also recorded, which was very useful because she talks fast and goes over a lot so I often had to go back and watch it to get everything. You do need the textbook! She uses a lot of examples that aren't covered in lecture but are in the book. Don't pay for it though, a pdf can be found online. All tests are multiple choice and had quite a lot of free point questions that are super obvious, but others are tricky so make sure to study. Sections are required, but were usually pretty fun group work projects. Highly recommend this class and Dr. Silvers!

I really enjoyed taking this class! This is one of the several psych classes I've taken here that really stood out to me. Professor Silvers is a great lecturer, she's very funny and I thought her lectures were really engaging. She gives great examples, even using her own experiences with her kids as a way to illustrate certain concepts. Each lecture is about a different aspect of development, so you get a taste of lots of different areas of developmental psych. There are two midterms (the lowest one is dropped, but if you take both you get a bit of extra credit) and a cumulative final (emphasis on content after second midterm). I would say in terms of difficulty, the tests were pretty fair and weren't too bad if you studied. There are also a couple writing assignments you submit in your discussion, but both were about 1 page in length so they weren't too much of a hassle. Discussion sections are mandatory, but they are pretty helpful and my TA, Naomi, was great. There's also a textbook that goes deeper into a lot of concepts in lecture that you're supposed to read, but I personally didn't need to use it. If you need a psych class, I would highly recommend this one.

This class was probably one of my favorite psych classes at UCLA. I learned a lot in this class. The class is mostly all midterm and final but she drops your lowest midterm. I did very well on the first midterm and average on the final, but did the SONA extra credit, and she gave us extra credit if 85% of the class filled out the survey. Discussion attendance, participation, and a couple small assignments contribute to the discussion grade, but was all manageable. You need to study for the exams, but if you watch lecture, take good notes, and remember the important studies/topics you will be fine.

The textbook is available by PDF so you save money! Professor Silvers is awesome. Her class is a breeze and if you pay attention in class, I don't know how you wouldn't get an A.

Prof Silvers is one of the best professors I’ve had at UCLA. You can tell she’s pretty passionate about the subject and her lectures are always comfortable and funny. I wish I would have been able to take this class in person. She does a great job of summarizing the chapters in the lectures and I only used the textbook if I was confused about a topic in class. I would take any other class she teaches at ucla!

Professor Silvers is so great. She gave such engaging lectures, I so wish this class had been in person. The tests were kinda tough (as in, you needed to study a lot), but there were no tricks ever. She is also so forgiving in her grading scheme that she only pulls your highest midterm score (which saved me because the first midterm was harder than I thought), and gives a lot of extra credit (up to 3 points overall and one point on your midterm score!). I recommend taking this class with Silvers, it has been one of my favorite electives!
