I am surprised that Professor Silvers does not have any reviews! She is by far my favorite professor at UCLA . She is so funny, passionate about the subject and very approachable. Her tests are not hard at all. If you simply go to class and put in some time to study you will do just fine. I personally thought her tests were way easier in comparison to tests in other psych classes. The class consisted of 2 midterms and a final (she drops the lowest midterm), 3, short 1 page reflection papers and participation in discussion. I never stressed about this class and actually enjoyed going every lecture even though it was bruincasted. Seriously, take Silvers you won't regret it.
This was an amazing class! Professor Silvers is so kind and genuinely an amazing teacher, I think she is one of the best teachers I have ever had because she makes you feel so comfortable when she lectures because she makes so many jokes and gives great examples. Her TA's are great too! I had Siobahn and she was such a big help to me and always understood my questions. I had to miss discussion about 4-5 times and I was always able to make it up and they were very understanding.
Although this class was enjoyable it was hard. This class took more time than any other of my classes. You HAVE to read the book AND watch the lectures. And I know you might be thinking you can get away with not reading the book, trust me I felt the same way till I saw my first midterm score. There will be questions on the test that come ONLY from the book NOT from the lectures. You can skim the book tho, I never spent more than 4-5 hours a week reading the book.
The class is fun and teaches you a lot but you really have to make sure you don't fall behind because each lecture is dense with information!! You got this!
Professor Silvers is so great. She gave such engaging lectures, I so wish this class had been in person. The tests were kinda tough (as in, you needed to study a lot), but there were no tricks ever. She is also so forgiving in her grading scheme that she only pulls your highest midterm score (which saved me because the first midterm was harder than I thought), and gives a lot of extra credit (up to 3 points overall and one point on your midterm score!). I recommend taking this class with Silvers, it has been one of my favorite electives!
Prof Silvers is one of the best professors I’ve had at UCLA. You can tell she’s pretty passionate about the subject and her lectures are always comfortable and funny. I wish I would have been able to take this class in person. She does a great job of summarizing the chapters in the lectures and I only used the textbook if I was confused about a topic in class. I would take any other class she teaches at ucla!
I took this seminar with Professor Silvers this quarter with the complementary course Psych 130. We meet 5 times overall the quarter. She sometimes gives lectures addressing some of the stuff mentioned in the regular course Psych 130, but for the last two meetings, we basically just do the debate and TED talk, which are really engaging and interesting. She gives pretty high grades on the debate and the TED talk, and the workload is very light. Definitely recommend this course to College Honors students.
