If you look at the grade distribution, you'll see 70% A's. This class is pretty fantastic. I'd say it's 100% effort based, that includes midterm and finals. Was that a typo? Nope, I'm serious.

Before I get into grades, I want to make it known that I didn't take stats in high school, and I still did fine. I actually think I learned quite a bit of useful knowledge. Okay, onto grades.

Homework is full credit for full effort. Her philosophy is that everyone learns differently. Some learn by doing, some learn by copying, some learn by making mistakes. Each homework question is paired with another question that's the exact same, except this one has full solutions too. So you really just need to substitute in different numbers and you're good. And if you're too busy that one week, or just too lazy, you submit something random, get full effort, and solutions are posted later for you to review (if you want).

Midterms and exams are not quite full credit for full effort, but they pretty much are. She gives you a "sample" midterm and final. Do it, learn it, memorize it. It's a really good guide and while the sample isn't the actual, it's a super good resource. Like, so good that if you have 2 hours to cram everything, the sample is the thing to cram.

There's also a few points here and there for classroom participation which isn't really classroom participation. If you miss class you can do an alternate assignment that's about the same difficult (maybe a bit more tedious) and still get full points.

If that's not great enough, Professor Jay is probably the kindest and sweetest professor at UCLA. If you have any problems or issues, e-mail or meet up with her, and she'll do everything within reason to help you out. Like if you forget to submit an assignment, but still did it, she'll give you the benefit of the doubt and still give full points. Not feeling good on the midterm or final? She'll help work something out (though, I didn't need this). She really cares about her students. I'd highly recommend this class.
