Having never taken an AP chemistry class before, I noticed I was definitely a little behind some of the other students but Dr. Casey teaches so well that it hardly matters, she made lecture and concepts very clear. I found that I could follow along well in class and pull my weight and more during discussion with those long worksheets. The AE versus A chem class is a lot more work but in my opinion worth it and helped me connect the dots in concepts I don’t think I’d be able to on my own. I highly recommend Casey if you can get her if she returns to UCLA, she really cares about her students whether that’s by emailing the textbook IT on your behalf or by connecting you with counseling help, she is 100% supportive and I don’t see that much care in most professors.
Professor Casey is great, her lectures are clear and she explains the material very well. She even subbed in for Lavelle for 14B and I thought she was even better than him. She's willing to answer all your questions and she replies quickly to all emails. I would definitely take another class with her.
She. Is. AWESOME. Loved her. She's super funny, laid back, and probably the most approachable professor I have ever had. Her lectures match exactly what she asks for on the lab reports, so make sure to take good notes so you can see how to do the problems in the lab reports. For our class, she made the midterm not count toward your grade if you did significantly better on the final, so I got like a 70 on the midterm (I didn't study at all, it really wasn't that hard, average was in the low 80s) But since I did really well on the final, my final was worth much more and my midterm was dropped. I ended up with an A in the class because I followed the post lab instructions closely (post labs=33% of grade compared to midterm=12% and final=25%) and did well on the final. More than half of the class got an A. Go to her office hours, she will do practice problems for you if you ask.
This class is a lot of work. The lab reports are quite long the first half of the quarter, but the second half they get significantly shorter and easier. Pre labs are easy but take 1-2 hours. Her final was fair, definitely challenging but nothing you wouldn't expect, no tricks. She gives lots of practice problems to prepare.
Definitely recommend her! She's someone I'd want to hang out with.
Dr. Casey is an amazing professor. There is lots of work that comes with lab; however, she is always willing to help. Her office hours are super helpful and welcoming. Her exams are fair. They are easy even if you do her practice problems (not mandatory) or practice midterm/final (Also not mandatory). She welcomes regrades and will go through the exam with you during office hours to understand why you missed points. She actually cares if you understand/enjoy/pass her class. One of the best professors I have had at UCLA.
