Grade: A+

Ajaan Jenjit is definitely one of the nicest professors I've had at UCLA. Her classes are definitely worth taking. Sometimes she goes a little off topic, but her stories are always interesting and funny. No textbook is required since she gives handouts of the material during class. Her tests and quizzes are fairly simple. Her class is easy, but it does get harder because of the difficulty of the language, but not because of her teaching. There is homework for her classes, but it usually consists of one page where you answer about 5 questions. It's really short. At the end of the quarter there is an oral exam, which requires you telling her a story in Thai, then asking her some questions about that story and then she asks you some questions. Reading is also tested during the oral exam. She makes the language easily to learn since she teaches at a decent pace. She's readily available for office hours. And if you miss class, you can always go to her office hours. Attendance is mandatory, so that may reflect in your grade. Overall, she is one of my favorite for professors and I definitely recommend taking her class.

I took Thai 1-3 and honestly enjoyed myself very much! I loved that Ajaan Jenjit infused Thai culture into her lessons too. Throughout the year, Ajaan has shown herself to be a truly understanding, kind and helpful professor. The Thai alphabets do get difficult, but Ajaan also ensures that we speak up and practice, which I found very useful! She also provides her own notes and materials, which is a lot less stressful than having to purchase other books. I think Ajaan was also very flexible in handling the whole online situation which I appreciated greatly.

TAKE THIS CLASS. I cannot stress enough how amazing this professor is. I am Thai and can speak Thai somewhat fluently, but don't know how to write Thai, so I went into this class with expectations that it'll be on the easier side with some difficulty when it came to reading/writing. But Jenjit went above and beyond to make sure we weren't stressed with this class. She understands that Thai is an intimidating language to learn, and does not expect you to be perfect as long as she can see that you are trying your best. I thought I did poorly on the final, but at the end she told me I did great and I got an A. She is veryyyy sweet, personable, and accommodating. Because not too many students take this course, she is able to make the effort to get to know everyone.

Lectures are live, but she posts the recordings online and you don't have to attend the live lectures. Exams usually come in two parts, reading and listening/speaking. Again, very easy to get an A on them as long as you put some effort into it. If you need to fulfill a language requirement, do yourself a favor and take this professor. Another bonus, it's extremely easy to get a spot in this class!!
