Professor Prager was a bit disorganized, but overall it was a very interesting course. You learn alot and the midterm and final are essay question and short answer based off of the readings. Selling Course Reader for 60 OBO. Contact me **********
Professor Prager did a terrible job trying to make this a teachable course. Every single lecture was like starting from scratch because he did not know how to follow through from the previous lecture. I stopped going to lecture the last 3 weeks and missed lecture more than that even.
I would say to get a good grade in this class, go to your TAs discussion! Thats what helped me get an A in the class. Everything else did not help at all.
I didn't really enjoy SOC40. There was a LOT of dense reading that was often round a bout and confusing. Prager, himself, often gave long, round a bout lectures that didn't really have any definitive conclusion. Also, we had to write two page papers every other week on top of the reading which made the workload even more strenuous. Personally, I didn't find the topic that engaging because Prager made it so dry and boring. Overall, I would not take this class again. HOWEVER, as long as you did the work, an A was pretty much guaranteed, so that was a plus.
I loved American Racism! It was a great course. Dr. Prager speaks organically so nothing is really planned. Some people would find it disorganized, but I found it really natural and made me feel more comfortable. I went to his office hours every week and truly enjoyed him. He cares about his students and often asked about the quality of his lectures. There is A LOT of reading, but it's all really interesting and not necessarily required. You just need to have a solid grasp of what the author is saying in the writing for the midterm and final. Both the midterm and final are easy if you understand the readings. The readings are not complicated at all. I got an A- in the class and left with a greater sociological understanding of racism in America. Also, I had Amberia as my TA and she's beautiful and amazing. Definitely a course I wish I could take again!
