Weinstein is a good lecturer and his tests are not too hard and not too easy. He conveys the material clearly. However, he is NOT approachable outside of his lectures and treated students like they were stupid for asking questions in lecture and office hours. If you take him, be prepared to either deal with his attitude or never attend his office hours for help.
THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER!
I took Math 3B with him at 8:00am on MWF and I still really enjoyed the class. His lectures are AMAZING! Throughout the whole quarter, I did not once read an any concepts from the book because his lectures covered it all and much more. He is very organized and clear - definitely makes the topics more interesting and easier to understand than what the book has. I loved the format of the class: In lecture, he teaches you the concepts and does simple example problems but his tests take it to another level. The midterms and final will really sort out those who truly understand the material and those who are just memorizing certain problems. This class will be very difficult for those who are lazy and simply want to earn an easy A because by no means should this class be taken lightly. However, for those who really want to learn: this is the class to take. I hated calculus in high school but quickly changed my mind after taking 3B with Weinstein. If you're up for a challenge, definitely take it!
Out of 3A, 3B, and 3C, his class was by far the easiest for me. His midterms and final are easy to perfect if you do his practice test, read through the book and do the book examples. The HW he assigns is even harder than the midterms and final. I never went to his office hours, but students who did told me he was not very friendly and did not seem to care that much. His lectures are good and he knows what he is talking about, but if you do ask a question during lecture, he may make you feel stupid with his response. TAKE THIS CLASS because it's the easiest math 3B class out there!
I think that Weinstein is an ok professor but he is not very friendly or helpful to students who struggle with the material. I took ap calc in high school and had learned a good deal of the material before. But if you have not had this background then be prepared to teach a lot of the material to yourself. I found the Math student center (3rd floor of MS). I think that Weinstein is not a particularly friendly prof. and so I didnt go to him for help. I used my TA and the student center instead...it worked out alright.
Weinstein knows his material, but there is No partial credit on grading tests, when we took our test he quickly graded the tests with the TAs in the testing room as soon as all the students left. The homework is worth 10pts each, also, his first test was not so bad, but the second one caused many students to drop because apparently he teaches material that is not required, that other 3B teacher don't teach but he does, so you get to learn extra stuff, if you like that. Overall, he was nice but it was akward talking to him when I had questions.
