Note: this class was listed as C186 my year, which is relevant if you want upper div credit.
Given how much I screwed up during this class, I'm happy with my A-. I would recommend this class if you're kind of good at piano and want an excuse to play it weekly. You have free rein, largely, with what pieces you play, and everything is overall low-stakes. Dr. Lent is very understanding as long as you're actually putting in effort (hence my A-), and he understands that especially for the non-majors, this class might not be their top priority.
The structure of the class is simple: every week you practice somewhere between 2-4 pieces, culminating in a recital. The exact details vary a bit by year. Honestly, if you have questions, I'd just email Dr. Lent—he'd be happy to talk to you more about it. I would gladly recommend it, and it's an easy A.
Awesome class!
Dr. Lent is one of the nicest, funniest, most welcoming people I've ever met. Although this class is required for my major, I would encourage anybody who's interested (major or not) to take it as a fun AND informative break from everything else! The tests/quizzes can seem a bit overwhelming but he's super lenient on everything (you can literally retake the final if you fail despite the curve) and gives lots of extra credit.
my favorite class :D
