I took his Fiat Lux because of my experience with him in LGBT M114, the review for which I pasted below. As for German 19, it was a really interesting class and his knowledge of Medieval Germany is just amazing. Great teacher, great guy. Selling the books Tristan and Isolde, and The Nibelungenlied for this class. Message me at ************* if you're interested. Professor Schultz is such a wonderful, charismatic, and knowledgeable teacher. This was one of my absolute favorite classes of the year and probably will be for the rest of college. I highly disagree with the review that states "you have a distinct disadvantage if you're not part of the LGBT community". I am not a part of it and did extremely well in the course. It has less to do with your involvement in the community and more to do with your interest in the course material. I personally was very interested in LGBT history and taking this course showed me a lot of new points of view in terms of how LGBT communities have evolved. I actually think this course would be more beneficial to those who are not a part of the community so that they may see the struggles the LGBT community has been through and how completely unnatural it is for America to be acting as prosecutors to such beautiful, strong human beings. I agreed with LGBT ideals before this class but after this class, I became an ally and joined the cause instead of sitting on the sidelines, and this is largely due to the passion I saw in Professor Schultz for his community. I ended up with an A in the class and I did all the readings. The writing grades are based entirely off your TA. I had a pretty chill one but my other friends were not so lucky and ended up with a B. Overall, I definitely recommend him and would take him again in a heartbeat but unfortunately my major has nothing to do with LGBT studies and cash for fun electives of personal interest does not exist. Btw, selling Zami: a new spelling of my name by Audre Lorde. Email me at ************* if you're interested. Also have past quizzes and papers.

Spring 2015 - This is a pretty interesting subject but it's NOT the easy A you might be expecting. There is homework due before every class as well as three reading responses, a short paper and a term paper. He is a stickler for attendance and participation. You must do all the readings (about 4 per week) to stand a chance at getting a passing grade and even then, you might fail. Schultz is a pretty harsh grader, and he provides ample comments on every paper where he will basically rip your argument to shreds.... I liked this class a lot at first but by the end I hated it.

Fall 2017 - Took this class in the fall of my Sophomore year. This class really is a great introduction to LBGTQ studies. Even if you are curious to learn more and ask questions it is a safe space to engage in lectures. It's basically a class on the history of the LGBTQ community. The readings are all online and given. There are no tests just different parts of essays. You also receive extra credit for attending events and writing a page on the event.

It was nice to get to know Schultz in such a small, intimate class. He's a very nice, funny guy. The subject material was very interesting. I personally would've preferred that Schultz lectured more instead of the entire class being a discussion. This class required very little time--there is only one 5-page final paper. There were a lot of readings but as long as you skim them and have a few things to talk about, you're good. The critical analyses are only due every three classes and they're easy. Your grade basically comes down to how well you do on the final paper; I pulled off an A. As long as you're ok with the fact that this class is basically a seminar (not a lecture) and you're interested in learning about queer history, take it!
